I been looking into a TRE first and second gear/ vr-4 first gear dose anyone have one??? I want to know how much of a difference it makes and what MPH dose it hits at 7000rpms and what mph a stock hits at 7000 rpms (never had the car working yet i wouldnt know). The site says 40 mph at 7500 rpms for the TRE and the VR-4 is suppost to be like 5 mph higher, but i want to hear this from someone eles and i dont think its that much of a differences, yesterday i was driving my buddeys 1995 talon (awd) and i thought i hit 37 mph at 7000 but he was flipping out so...(looks like i have to get him drunk and drive him home in his car to find out) I have a 1990 so i hear the intermediate shaft might have to be upgraded anyone hear of this befor...Anyone with the TRE First and second gear or VR-4 oweners your commits would help...Anyone who has done there tranny work themself if you could tell me that would be prime....

Thread moved.

I have the GVR4 1st gear in my 96. It's longer so no more puttering around parking lots or screwing around with gas-clutch-gas-brake in traffic jams. 1st gear is long enough to be useable. I think I come close to 35 mph at 7k. Somewhere there abouts.

is it worthwhile mod or should i just buy the new transmission and screw rebuilding it?? You know where i can get a used transmission i dont want a TRE special or some expenisive one. And the 1990 i hear one and awhile that the intermediate shaft isnt the same or sucks, so will other year transmissions work with i?? Sorry about the "thread moved" guess i posted it in the wronge area i was look for some wise and knowlageable post back..

It is an absolute worthwhile mod. I plan on getting the GVR4 first gear. Its amazing how big of a difference it makes for 60' times. Put a DSM with a GVR4 first gear against one with a stock tranny and youll see the difference.

anyone eles have a TRE first and second gear or the vr-4 first gear...I haven't heard many people talk about the TRE gears.......

Where can I get the VR-4 first gear. I posted a while ago on here or talk and never got an answer. Let me know if you know somewhere that sells em. Thanks for the space.

Stilling wondering about the TRE first and second gear or the VR-4...WHich one of those too should i pick??OR should i just go with a stock tranny, even if i dont where can i get just a cheap one?

I have the TRE 1st gear. I like it a lot, the ability to hit ~40mph in first is great for autocross and drag racing. I haven't gotten a chance to see how much it cut my 60' time yet (maybe this weekend) but it helped a lot with autocross because 1st is actually useable now, and I don't have to shift as much. If you are going to do a lot of racing, I would suggest the TRE gear.

Thanks, did you install it in yourself??? Now that i found someone who has one, admite they have, and feels like sharing i need to find someone who installed it thereself....Any know what you shift at in 1st gear MPH wise???

No I didn't install the gearset myself. John and Ming at Team Ripped built me a custom TRE AWD Race tranny. The only thing I did myself was resurface my flywheel, install my ACT 2600, install my cylinders, and remount the tranny to my car. TRE did all the internal stuff.

On testing once I broke the tranny in, I could hit 40 MPH at around 7400 RPM.

I have a DSM Link, and my redline is not set at the normal spot. I can hit 45mph if I really want to, but I haven'e had the need yet

Click my profile for mods. The speed you can hit will depend on your turbo. I think if I had a bigger turbo, I could hit 45 just before the 7500 redline.

IT's probably a waste to get the TRE 1st gear unless you have some serious power in the engine. If you don't plan on pushing big HP numbers, you are probably better off with the VR-4 gearset
