I am buying a 90 Talon TSI AWD, The previous owner said that while he was coming home one night the wheels just locked up. The shop said he needs a tranny. I think it is the xfer case. Here is my question, will the car still roll if the xfer case went, if so how can I diag a bad xfer case?? Also does anyone know if my 91 GSX tranny or xfer case will work in a 90 talon?? Thanks for your time.

yea the 91 will work. You can drop down the xfer case and try to move it by hand to see if it fired. Just check to see if there is fluid still. When mine went there was almost no fluid at all. If that is the case then you go. That is about the easyist way i can think of. Mine still moved but very little. It would just bind up and you would have to force it then it would move alittle but mine wasn't totaly gone yet. Hope that info helps

There's a recall on the transfer case because they tend to leak until dry, then wear out and lock up. Sometimes a locked up transfer case will bend stuff in the tranny, too. Some people have gotten that fixed under the recall, too. But there's no guarantee you will find a cooperative dealer, my dealer is not only a total PITA to work with, they're also pretty ignorant of DSM's, turbos, and cars in general.
