I have a stock 91 gsx and the other day i was on the freeway and I tried to shift into 5th and it went into third instead when I got of the freeway I checked and i didnt have reverse or 5th... since then 5th came back by itself but everytime i try to shift into reverse it goes into 4th instead... any help would be most appreciated

On the top of the tranny you have your selector shaft where the 2 levers interlock to move the shaft up and down. You should have a white plastic block if the block is cracked or missing this could be your problem. If that block is in good shape you probally have a internal problem.

mine was like that sometimes, my car also did it in 2nd alot, and first was very hard to get into but was there if i pushed hard enough
the bushings that connect the shift cables to the linkage on the transmission were smashed, so the left to right motion of the shifter wasnt moving the linkage properly, i bought these shifter bushings for the cable end rings/pins from dsmparts.com and it fixed the problems, plus my shifter feels mush stiffer and more direct
