Grinding and missing...

Ok, this will be the first time I've opened up one of these little rice tranny's so I need a little input.

Symptoms -

The shifter is WAY loose. I attribute this to the fact that the bushings are gone. No prob, easy to fix, I already have replacements. My deal is, I'm grinding and missing gears occasionally. Does anyone think that rebuilding my shifter will fix this?

I plan on doing it this weekend but If I need to pull my tranny for more involved repairs I'm going to need bring my H/O back from Amarillo...that means I'll have to fly up there because my 528 can't tow, it's going in the shop Monday for new CV joints. Helluva time for my DSM to start acting up...

Anyway, any help will be appreciated.

shifting problems should fix the grinding, probably not engaging properly if not probably the syncro's are gone.
