 i'm new to the forum and am having intermittent problems with my eclipse. occasionally after shifting, sometimes in 1st gear, sometimes 2nd, even 3rd, but never 4th or 5th, my car seems to be lacking some serious engine to wheel power. the engine will be running ok and the rpms will increase but the power and more importantly speed just aren't there. feels like it's running with the clutch half engaged. it's only happened maybe four or five times and seems that when it happens - if i reclutch then the problem goes away temporarily. has anyone out there experienced this if so please help.

Easy....your clutch is shot. Get a ACT or other high performance clutch and have the shop doing the work check the hydraulics for the clutch pedal. It has to be one of the two and getting a better clutch is NEVER a bad thing.

My first guess is the clutch, but before you change it I heard about a problem with a nut on the transmission shaft that you can look at without dropping the trans and see if it is loose (thru the inspection cover on the side of the trans.) The loose nut is sometimes at fault when it comes to shifting problems on a 1G. It would be a good idea to check it before spending the $$$ on a new clutch and install. I still think its the clutch but it would be nice if it wasn't. Hope this helps... Joe

ps there is a VFAQ on it somewhere but I don't know where.
