Left Interstud?

OK I took my eclipse to the shop to have the first work done on it that I haven't done myself in awhile, due to the case that I know practically nothing about drivetrains, and I didnt have the time this time to try and learn. Result at the shop: Broken Left (rear) interstud. What is this and how much is a new one? Just want to make sure the shop isn't going to overcharge me. Also, could that cause the symptoms i have here?
