Miami,
I need to change the tranny in my car, I already got it but I wanna save some money in the installation. Is it hard to do? I'm going to do it with my stepdad and he knows a bit about it but I just wanna make sure. And if anyone knows of a site that tells you how to do it I would appreciate it. Thanks:dsm:

i took my tranny out today. it was the first time i ever did a awd set-up. it took me 5 hours just to take out the old tranny, by myself. tomorrow i am going to put the new tranny in. by the way i am doing it in my driveway. i sugest when you install the new one get an engine lift because it is very awkward trying to put up the tranny. good luck.

Actually if your doing it in a dirvewya an engine lift is about 10 times better than a transmission lift.

Also when your trying to get it back on take a wrench and turn the crank pulley mine wouldnt slide in easily until we did this, and it still took some effort.

Also try and keep everything level.

But do I really need an engine or transmission lift? I ask because when the mechanic changed my clutch kit about 2 weeks ago he didn't use one and it didn't look so difficult to me.

i just put mine back in yesterday. it took me another 5 hours. if you are doing it in your driveway and don't have a lift i sugest an engine lift. i tried it without one and there was no way i could do it by myself. maybe if you had 2 people it might work. also use a floor jack to keep the back of the tranny level. with the jack and engine lift it took me 10 minutes to put it in.

I'm not doing it alone though, I would never finish it. Hopefully everything goes well. I plan to do it tomorrow and it has to be done by tomorrow because I really need the car this weekend. Spring Break in Miami is off the hook.

i pulled my tranny yesterday it took me about 6 or 7 hours but i was messing i would find myself messing with other stuff. like removing the egr stuff, and the cruise control but the only part that was hard and not really that hard was pulling the tranny out the engine but i didn,t have andy type of jack and i forgot to take a braket off from under the car but it was not that hard with to people it mightr be harder to put back in but i will find out- but now for the hard part --- rebulding it ---

Umm, I sure the car was on a lift then, which makes it a *completely* differen't situation.

Its easy right now i finished installing my tranny but somethig went wrong!~ i need to put everything back together know and see what happens! but like they said when isntalling the tranny on the 2gen there will be only one motor mount holding the engine so make sure you support the engine good and keep everything level and remmber to add some grease to the input shaft, i think its called the stick where the throw out bearing goes! and grease everything up that needs to be greased up! TOB and Fork and etc get a manual or go to some website lie vfaq.com and i think TECH articcles on DSmtuners have a install guide! good luck i recommend you get a friend and have him help you its alot easier with two ppl! and get ready to hate yor car! haha TRANNYS INSTALL SUCK!!!! you will see why! but again GOOD LUCK!

I have to agree with the tranny jack - get one or else this is a miserable job.

I rented one from a local rental place for $15. Call around, a lot of places have them and they are really necessary to do the job safely, I tried having a friend help me balance the tranny on a floor jack for a while, but it was just about impossible to get the thing in place. Proper equipment makes it a one-person job.

i recently did a tranny swap, and i have to say the hardest part was holding the engine up independently of the tranny. a tranny jack will also make the job a lot easier, i had to have my room mate help me with the tranny on the floorjack. every other part i did by myself, including getting the tranny out of the car

Experience is the key;) Last time i pulled my tranny, it took me about 40min. Drop the tranny five time this summer
