Ok heres the problem. I left Best Buy yesterday, in first and shift into second and everything is fine. I was about to push in the clutch and go to third but my shifter went limp. Currently I am stuck in second and the shifter moves freely back and forth (or up and down) where first and second should be but it never actually engages. Also I am starting the car in second, so I can't throw it in neutral and let off the clutch unless I take off in second. My friends told me.

a: Shift fork broken
b: shift linkage rods (something to that effect)
c: bad syncros

Let me know what any of you think. Thanks for the time and space

broken shift fork
detached shift cables
boken shift linkage, but not very likely.
I had a shft fork break and that's exactly how mine felt.

My neighbor has a shop and we're going to take it apart and hopefully thats what it will be. If it isn't I'm going ahead and getting new ones anyway. I'll let everyone know what it was when we're done incase anyone else has it happen.

Update, found out what the problem was on sunday should've posted earlier. I put on my I/C pipes and with my mas off I noticed that the arm connecting the shifter to the tranny was off. The rubber ring holding them in place was worn on top causing the shifter to move off. I replaced the ring and replaced the washer with a larger one in case this happens again. Total cost : Free, got the rubber ring from my mechanic friend, and had a washer lying around. BTW Pnuemo, thanks for the resonse.
