Hey whats up people I'm thinking of purchasing an Automatic 91 Eagle Talon TSI but its an automatic I am getting an awesome deal on it, it needs some engine work but thats not what I'm worried about what I want to know is how much of a pain in the ASS would it be for me to switch it to a 5 speed transmission and how much I'm I looking at in terms of $$$. If any could be of any help I would appreciate it..

Thanks

Im not sure exactly, but I think you would be looking at more work than even converting from FWD to AWD. And besides all the parts, you would also need an ECU from a 5spd. I knew a few guys that did this in Mustangs, and it was a huge project. I think it would be even more difficult in a DSM.

there is a tutorial at vfaq.com on how to do what you're asking. even in the tutorial it says its a HUGE project and very expensive.

If you're getting such a good deal on it, just keep the A/T. Yes, it's somewhat harder to make it as fast as 5-speeds, but it's not too bad. If you want, you can test-drive mine after I get the shift kit and end clutch upgrades done to see how you like it, even though mine's a 2G. Or even before that if you like. PM me and let me know.

I had looked into this also. If you get a 5 spd donor car it shouldn't be bad. The FAQ said it takes about 8 hours and it looked pretty straight forward. A donor car should be easy to come by for all the linkages.
