Which would you get and why? They both do basically the same thing right? A spool will cause the same problems as a welded center diff during low speed turns right? I'm guessing the only benefit to a spool is it's reverseable if you want.

uhh... which center dif? awds have 3 of em :)

dont expect your car to like to 'welding' or spooling ANY of the difs... propshaft windup will get you in the center viscous dif... steering will kill you with the front end dif, and you can get a rear end viscious LSD unit for CHEAAAAAAAAP (4 bolt unit... i got one so cheap that its not even funny...)

I know that AWD's have 3 diffs. Don't we usually refer to them as Front, Center and Rear? The one I am talking about is the center diff that splits the power between the front and rear wheels. I just want more opinions on the TRE spool. I know the down sides to having a welded center diff. My car is mainly a weekend car that I like to take to the track. I am going to be droping the tranny next week to do a ACT 2600 and AL flywheel, and since the tranny is going to be pulled why not make the center diff stronger. On TRE's website they say a spool is the best way to lock the center diff. Will it make the diff stronger? The price is basically the same, $225 for the spool or $200 to weld my center diff at RRE.

Either way your not going to brake either of them. The spool might make your drive line a bit more efficient. But that is a guess. So what ever you do it doesnt really matter. You might as just spring the extra 25 bux for the spool. so if you want to change back then you have the center diff.

225 sounds like a good deal, i think roadrace is charging 200 for a complete job, not sure if thats bench job or not.

RRE charges $200 just to weld the center diff and that is I just take in the diff loose. They also charge $50 more if I want to lighten the vicous coupling. I think I will get the spool.
