So I think my tranny is on its final days. Lately when I put the transmission in reverse and let off the clutch, it shudders really bad - like something is loose or ready to shear off. But as luck would have it, my friend has a '91 FWD tranny lying around and since he has misc. AWD parts, he's throwing in an intermediate shaft. Now in order to do the equal-length half shaft mod, I will need the intermediate shaft, A/C bracket - which is still on the car, and an AWD driverside half shaft. From what has come up in the searches, these are what I need correct? Or do I also need a carrier bearing for the intermediate shaft? It seems like every thread is a dead end and the VFAQ is long gone, so if anyone can help out it would be great. Thanks.

It should bolt on no problem. It should have a carrier baring on it? All you need to do is replace the old axle with the shaft and AWD axle.

That makes sense. I don't know if the intermediate shaft has the carrier bearing on it. I'm assuming that it does but I haven't seen it before, so I don't know.
