ok.. I have a 91 TSI with ABS and I do not have LSD. I have the factory sales book. Says you cannot have LSD and ABS...has to be one or the other. Yet my freind has a 92 GSX and has both...what gives. Cause I found a LSD rear, but I am afraid to get it and put it in, and if I do..will it cause any probs?...Someone help!

I used to have ABS. I swapped the rear to a LSD. Never had any problems with it. Although I do remember the ABS light being on for a while (until I took the bulb out). I can't remember if it came on around the same time I did the swap though.

Its just that there wasnt an option for it in 90-91...in 92 you couuld get abs and lsd together. BTW, if your getting an LSD rear end and putting it in , make sure its a 4 bolt!!!

does that only apply for the 1g? if a 2g has abs then it does not have lsd? how do you check?

when it comes to how many bolts....what bolts am I looking at, sorry if I sound dumb

Also find out what tranny the donor car had. The gear ratio is different between auto and manual. So if you have a manual tranny you'll need the rear end from a manual tranny car.

Count the number of bolts where the axle shafts attach to the differential. Here is a pic of the differences: http://www.vfaq.com/proj-pics/4bolt/4bolt-004.jpg

You may also want to read the VFAQ on swapping the rear end: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/4bolt.html

My 92 has both. I've heard the ABS sucks on 1G's but I've slammed on the brakes a few times and it stops very quickly with no sliding at all. Stopping quickly in wet weather is great as well. I'm sure 2G's are much better but nothing wrong with ABS on my 1g as far as I can tell. I'm definately glad I have it.

This is a popular upgrade for Galant VR4s, which have the same ABS as 91 DSM. I never heard of anyone having ABS problem as a result of this.

The risk is that ABS will not be able to handle "locking" of two rear axles together because of LSD. The reality is that viscous coupling LSD is not all that effective, so I would not worry about it too much.
