I got a tranny (fwd) a week of so ago - said it was rebuilt new with LSD and double sync in 2nd. However, the 'wave spring' was destoyed and the part of the bell housing that the TOB sits on was also broke off. I broke the tranny apart and there is a LSD. I dont know what I am looking for to confirm it has double sync in second - anyone have a pic? I looked thru vfaq, couldnt confirm anything. My tranny I was going to swap out had 65k and this one was supposedly a new rebuild - neither one of the trannies' bearing or gears look rough - what do you guys think?

What are you referring to with the wave spring? The reverse cone wave spring on the end cover??? Please take pictures of the broken parts.

It sounds like you need a new bellhousing also since the bushing that the input shaft goes through (part where the TOB slides on) is broken off. Is there damage to the input shaft?

Here is a picture showing two gears both with double synchro assemblies (one stock vs. one machined to fit double synchros).

Thanks for the pic/reply. I transferred the innards of the other trans (with the broke bell housing) into mine. His wave spring was also damaged - everything else appeared fine. I changed most of the gears and the differential - put everything back together slowly/safely fired the car up shifts thru great on blocks. Drove it around the block - definite medium loud hum past 35mph or so. Is this likely the LSD or something else? Looks like a seal @ the diff maybe got mangled as it's leaking - taking a look tomorrow. Thanks again for the reply!

Did you swap the outer bearing races too? If you left the races with the case when you did the swap, you could have mismatched bearing races which will destroy the tapered rollers.
