Ok, at the start of my swap a buddy of mine tried to help me remove my drivers side axle. It was pretty well stuck in the hub, so after pb blaster and a torch and the axle not budging, he gave it the mightiest performance enhancing drug swing that even barry bonds would be jealous of with a 3lb hammer. The end result?? Pancaked axle threads. The swap is just about done now, but now i'm stuck on what to do with this axle. Yesterday I ground down the pancaked section with a cutting wheel, I'm afraid of going there's still a decent amount of good threads left, but getting this nut to grab is not happening. I'd say I have to rethread the top three threads, and the nut should go on fine. My question is.....how to I do that?? Can some one give me the pitch and thread of the threaded end of the exle. I guess I could get a tap and die if they make one in the correct size, but I'm not really sure how to use one. Any tips or advice from you guys?

Take it in for a core charge on a new axle. We did the same thing on my brothers AWD and it was only around 50 bucks.

By the time you get the die, buy a new castle nut, and take the time to do it, you can buy a new / rebuilt axle and be done with it. Your looking at the cost of a new axle in the die alone.

I think you boys are probably right, time to just add another amount onto the cost of this rebuild and call it a day

Give Defiant an 'at a boy' award for the day. Grind just a little more from the end tip of the axle so that the nut will slide up to the threads. If you still have enough threads for the castle nut to engage fully then I would reuse it.
