whats up guys, i dont know if you know Jeff browning but i juss bought his tranny, and its got a galant 1st gear with a welded center differential. i got a great deal on it, its almost brand new, plus i needed one. But i was wandering if any of you guys have tried it, its goin on my awd 90 tsi. if any one else has it, can you tell me the difference in driving every day, cause im kinda worried that it will make it hard on daily driving. any input will be appreciated, thanks

I used to get stuck in parking lots! I would turn into a parking spot in neutral - the car would stop and I would have to put it in 1st gear and take off again!

You better make a lot of track trips so you can get some use out of it! If you dont go to the track a lot, sell it!

Personally, I would send the welded diff to Speed Design & have them make a regular 4-gear diff out of it.

Really? like tell me more, haha, how hard is it and what happens? does it die or anything, when your backin up is it harder, is it gonna be hard for me to get used to it? and is there anyway i could put a normal center diff in it with out a hole new tranny, cause its got the galant 1st gear so i want to keep that, what do ya think?

You might want to do a search on this... It has been discussed many times.

But I will tell you this. If you still have 3 bolt rear end, you will snap it on your first hard launch...

BTW once a ceter diff is welded, you can not convert it back. Guys at Speed Design do good work, but they can not perform miracles :). You will need a new/used center diff to convert into 4 spider gear style. But I do agree that this is a much better idea for a street driven car...

Yea driving on a welded diff sux. How much HP are you making. The galant 1st gear isn't as good as you might think ive seen then broken manytimes at BMtranny.

well i dont know the exact hp numbers, i got the big 16g ported clipped, fmic, afc,550s, exhaust, all that little stuff that the average 16g car has. The main reason i bought it cause my good friend Warren Healy(www.eccentric-motorsports.com) is in town to fix my car and hes doin it at Jeff Brownings house, well Jeff had the tranny and i needed one so put two and two together. Im juss worried that im gonna be a bad driver now,LOL. For some reason i heard it was juss the front center diff welded, something like that, i dont know that much, but is it worth it at all since i needed it? and im gettin a 4bolt like in a week, so that will be fine, what ya think?

Well, your rear axles should be OK with the 4 bolt rear end. But it will still be a PITA for everyday driving...

The good news is that if you want to you will be able to install a regular center diff in less than 2 hours, with out removing the tranny.

So try it out, as long it is already in the tranny. But reversing it should not be too difficult.

when you say replace the differential, will that cause any problems or will it make it easier on me? well i have no clue how to do this stuff my self, thats the prob, so im kinda stuck
