Alright, so I just got this car last week and I was driving it fine.... all the gears worked great. All of a sudden, I cant get into any gears and the shifter just goes back and forth (like going into 3rd and 4th) but it doesnt actually "go" into gear. It has a lot of play. The car starts fine with the clutch in, but as soon as you take the clutch out it stalls. Basically, this car is going nowhere, until I can get it to move into the gears, but it honestly feels like it just got disconnected or something...

The car is currently stuck in a parking lot.... I'm wondering what this could be? I hope its simple...

Please Help!!! Any insight appreciated!

I probably should've posted this in the newb section..... but what am I looking for? the shifter cables? also do I have to remove my center console or are they actually under the hood?

I'm sorry guys, I JUST got a DSM so I'm a complete newb. I'm having a friend come to look at it so I will hopefully know if its the shifter cables within an hour. I'll let ya know.

thanks guys - I fixed the problem earlier today and now its fine. You were both right - it was the shifter linkage.... my rubber bushing was ripped and it came undone.

I'm now thinking about getting brass bushings..... any view on these?

I have the SpeedSource brass bushings. They are nice and seemed to help the gears 'hit'. I'm not sure how to describe it other than if you go from 2nd to 3rd, you will definitely feel the end of the shift (where as sometimes it'll go in, but still move forward a bit more). With these, it notches it and feels solid. Just so a search for underhood bushings and read up some more. There's also some good info out there on the skateboard/roller blade bearing mod.
