alright, well i know this thread will probably get me flamed on worse than elton john at a ### strip club, but i need some input from some fellow dsmers. there are a few swaps i have been considering, and my goal is to have a badass one-off summer ride, and a kick ass daily and winter ride.

here what i got to work with:

1993 Eclipse GS (blown motor, My Baby, i want to keep this over all others)
1992 Talon (lifter tick, Daily)
1990 Eclipse GST (rebuilding blown motor, Parts only-no title)
Tons of parts for most 1G DSM's

and im thinking on picking up a:

1991 Talon TSI (Runs good, little rust)
-or-
1991 Talon TSI AWD (missing turbo and tranny)

^^^both same price^^^ ideas???

CONSIDERED SWAPS:

1) Convert my 1993 GS into a GST
2) Convert my 1993 GS into a GSX

The Mother of All Coversions

3) Convert my 1993 GS into a RWD SR20DET powered Monster! (thats a japnese turbo nissan motor for those who dont know)

i know that number 3 will get some shit thrown at me, but im NOT a NOOB to DSM's. i know my shit, i have blown up and rebuilt mine more times than i can count, LOL, im kinda known for it. everytime i change my oil, i coat the brake and fuel lines in gel lube, every bolt i put back in, i use threadsealer so i know they will come out easy next time. so as u can see, i take care of my shit.

a buddy of mine and i will be getting a shop very soon, so i will have the location to do the conversion work, and we will be getting a welder and a plasma cutter, and we have experience welding so thats fine. both of us have rebuilt his SR20DET, and done a swap into a nissan 240sx twice.

so i know everything will be custom fabricated, and almost everything will be done by us, and if we do this to my 1993 GS, i will most likely get rid of all my other rides, and pick up a GSX or TSI AWD for my daily/winter.

im just looking for some input about your thought about doing this swap. sound interesting? or no? waste of time and money? if i do this rwd sr20det swap, i will never sell my 93 gs. so i would keep it forever. let me know wut u all think.

The layout of your car does not really lend itself to a RWD drivetrain. Just to start there's not really a tranny tunnel, the engine bay is setup for a transverse FWD engine instead of a RWD longitudinal engine, and you would have to custom fab a rear subframe and driveshaft tunnel to top it off. If the engine fit in the engine bay it would probably be a tight fit, you might have to push the firewall back. To top it off it's one of those swaps just for swapping's sake, just to be different. People respect swaps that take a slow car with the potential for greatness- but being held back by its powertrain- and give it the kind of oomph that makes it great. In your case the most likely candidate is a simple GST conversion.

i understand this, and by the end of the process, my eclipse will be turbo, im currently rebuilding a 6bolt, and i might be buying a tsi awd in the next couple weeks, for my daily/winter, then my eclipse for my summer ride.

i decided to go with the SR20 swap because the motor is about the same size maybe smaller than a 4g63T. plus there is alot less to that motor. and me and my buddy have alot of experience between us with that motor. and wedecided that since i love that motor just like he does, and i love my eclipse over everything else, we would drop an SR20 into my eclipse. so its not to just be different, its to combine two of my loves into one badass passion. LOL

As long as you're willing to go through all of the trials and troubles of making it fit, and really want to do it, then realistically you don't need anybody to tell you what to do with your car. People get caught up in strange motivations for what they do to their cars, chasing some magic number or building a car to please people on an internet message board. In the end, you're always going to enjoy it the most if you build your car for yourself and not others. So, go for it.

yea thanks man, i know this is for me and my buddy only. im not trying to impress anyone, i just really want this, and im really just looking for advice about swapping the awd rear end onto my car, along with the whole nissan motor into a mitsubishi, and customdriveshafts and stuff, but idk
