95-96 and 97-99 have different ratios. So you need the transfer case to go with it if i remember correctly.

That is correct. 91-96 transfer cases work with 91-96 trannies, 97-99 t-cases work with 97-99 trannies. Otherwise your front and rear final drive ratios will be different and your viscous coupling may fail.
