most people i have talked to at dealerships or trans shops all say "duh the front diff has to have preload if it had endplay that would be bad". well my new mitsubishi service manual says that it had an endplay spec of .0020"-.0067". i don't know much about differentials and their need for a preload or endplay spec. but i need to know which it is so i can order my damn shim.

just guessing i won't ever get a reply but thanks.

It depends on if you're talking about the bearings that the diff rides on, or the spec for the spider-to-side gears.

Diff bearings need preload, spider/side gears need endplay.
