Shift cable bushings

So I'm curious...

Let's say that one of the rubber bushings on the end of one of my shift cables was pretty torn up and allowed for some play. Would it be possible that it could make it a little more difficult to find 1st and 3rd gear? If so, which cable would it be that would cause such a problem?

It could definately affect how hard it is to shift. Most likely it would be the side-side throw arm. If its torn up then the cable with the torn up bushing is the one that you need to replace. If it is really hard to shift into those gears and it pops out sometimes then its most likely the synchros.

Better not be the synchros! I've got maybe 10 miles on my brand new transmission.

It's just been a little harder to find 1st or 3rd since the install so I've been looking for anything that may need adjustment and I was hoping that I found the problem. The torn up bushing is on the arm that moves side to side (there is a good amount of play). Just didn't want to say where it was earlier so that people wouldn't randomly agree and post "yup, that's why."

Also, thanks. I do know about the skateboard/rollerblade bearing mod but I ordered some bushings from speed source last night. Hopefully that corrects the problem.

If you have a torn bushing, that would defintely affect shifting. The new bushings should help with the problem. If not, let us know about it after you install them.
