if i were to put 18's on my car will it slow down acceleration? should i pick a smaller size rim? and if so what size is a good size? thanks alot.

It depends on what size your rims and tires are now.
For exsample: I have some old heavy 16" rims with 55 profile tire(stock size). If I get some lightweight 18" rims with 40 profile tires, I will have about the same rolling diameter, and maybe around the same weight.
So I won't be losing any acceleration in that trade.

But if your wheel diameter increases with bigger rims, you most likely will be losing some acceleration.

Somebody correct me if I had any wrong info there.

Yeah your right. RWD cars get wider and bigger wheels, they are heavier but since the traction is better its actually faster. But in your case, the factor wheels for 1.8's are 14? My 90 eclipse were 14's. But upgradeing to 18's will probably slow u down a bit but not a whole lot. What with you plan on going with. If i were i'd get 18x7 maybe even 18x6 if they make them that small.

You can make up for rolling resistance with weight to a degree with a 14" rim stock you are definately going to loss some acceleration but if you have a lets say volk gram light wheel on your car it will make up for some of the loss. You could also do something else which would be to get 17" with a low profile tire and spend some money on lowering the car a little this will change the fender line giving the appearence of a bigger rim.
