I was just wondering if there is any type of cv boot replacement out there that just went around the axle without having the take the hole damn thing apart. My axle is brand new, the company that the axle is made by however, put to large a replacement boot on there and over time it wore against the bolt that comes up from the lower ball joint and it has a small groove wore into it.

My father says there has to be a company out there that makes one that just slips over the axle, help me out here.

My cousin used to have about 10 of those slip over cv boots laying around in his shop.

I know napa auto parts carries a replacement, but you have to take the axle off and put it on and tighten it with some supplied clamps and pack it with the included grease and install it.

if you can't find the slip over cv boot, you might have the install the cv boot replacement that doesn't slip over.

Its not that hard to take out an axle.

just take your time.

well why dont you ask your cousin where he got those boots and if he still has one, see there is snow here and it is ball to the walls cold out and I do not have a garage to work in. So i need something fast and easy to install.

Do you have to pop off the lower ball joints or remove the shaft from the tranny if it is only the outer side closest to the wheel that needs replaced.

your telling me noone knows where I can find a wrap around cv boot replacement ??????? :notgood:

I bought some online from Kragen/Parts America.

They work fine, you just had to clean the area well. I used Mobil 1 synthetic grease (red stuff) to replace the axle grease that was included in the kit.

It's called a half-boot kit. In addition, you need the tool to tighten the CV band they supply. It's around $14 for it.

My humble opinion.

I do not like speedy boots. They leak, they get tangled up in things, and if the axle has time on it, it probably is going to make noise because you didn't get the dirt and debris out of the cv joint.

In my area of the world, axles are around 60.00 and come with 2 new boots and 2 remanufactured joints.

Axles are not all that hard to put in.

Good Luck

I purchased my CV boot replacements from Raxles. They come with everything you need to replace (boots, grease, clips).

Yes you need to pull the axles, but this is not a difficult chore for most average home mechanics. As noted above, split-joints are a :nono: . Do it once and do it right :dsm:
