For like the past 3 weeks, I've had a grinding sound that occurs under any type of accelaration. It will stop when the clutch is in, when I let the clutch out, I'll hear the noise for maybe 2 or 3 seconds like something is catching up in the engine. I was low on tranny fluid, I filled it, no difference. Also for like the past 3 or 4 days when i put it in 1st gear it will grind unless im at a complete stop. I never dump the clutch and rarely redline it. I was planning on doin a clutch job but I need to figure this problem out cuz if i spend 5 600 bucks and it's not the prob., Im a little tight on cash and ide be screwed.
any advice will help
thanks jon

Sounds clutch-related to me: throwout bearing or possibly the "sprung" clutch disk (both have caused noticible grinding sounds on my car in the past).

If it was the tranny itself, the sound would not likely silence when the clutch was depressed.

Can save yourself a few hundred dollars dong the work yourself if you have the tools and 1/2day (for a novice mechanic) following the VFAQ :thumb: :dsm:

thanks a lot dude I figured it was clutch related, stock clutch 75k time for an upgrade

If its any AWD, try checking the dust cover on the transfer case where the driveshaft inserts. These are known to come loose and when shaft turns it makes a loud ringing rattling noise.

also, theres play second gear like when im accelarating, the shifter will go toward the rear of the car but on decelaration, it will point toward the front, it wont pop out of gear but there's about 2 inches of play front to back not side to side
thanks again
