I run or was running a spool tranny for a semi daily driver. Anyone have any issues with drivetrain components due to the extra stress.

I've blown up a few things.....

well, the first day i drove my dsm with a new trans that had a spool/welded diff. I overheated my rearend to the point it smoked and I had to stop and leave it where it sat. Unfortunately I have no idea what the problem was. I opened up the diff. and didn't see anything seriously wrong. The fluid was a bit low and smelled terrible from the heat, and the drain plug looked funny. (Is there supposed to be some plastic thing on the end of the drain plug??Mine has this thing that is free spinning, but won't come out, and it looks like plastic, but may be lead or something else soft like that, on it. That part is all boogered up now and there were two pieces about dime sized that were broken off in there too.)

What parts have gone bad on you, and what happened when they did?

there's a magnet in the rear diff drain plug.

I've ate up fourth gear stutterbox shifting into it on a mild pull. and I'm pretty sure I blew up the front diff this time.

Did you break parts, simply because you installed a welded VC?

I was going to pick one up... Not sure if its such a good idea now?

Thanks!

A spool (or any other method of locking your diff), can cause a lot of drivetrain issues, but I do not see how it can hurt your 4th gear.

oh fourth was all mine, too much initial power I guess going into the shift. I will cryo treat the next set and the case.

currently, I believe the front diff got ate up. considering the spool is locking power front to rear, I'm wondering if the stress from turning, hammering on it in a corner is adding to me in killing parts.

What year tranny is this?

unsure, it has a 22 output spline, so 91ish?. TRE rebuild, but the motor pushing it also has some credit for the damage.
