I just installed a new ACT 2600 and Streetlight flywheel. It tends to shutter lightly when the clutch engages on a downshift to 2nd and sometimes 3rd (usually when cold). It never shutters when upshifting to any gear. Could it have something to do with having a lightweight flywheel? Share your knowledge please...

What do you mean shutter? Is there a noise or is there an actual vibration? Lightweight flywheels can cause a noise but shouldn't cause a vibration. The flywheel may have not been machined right or was warped from the manufact. if the flywheel is new.

If you have a shudder, and the car shakes, check your tranny mounts. You may have installed them wrong. And if it continues check your tq. specs and make sure they are all correct.

You need to describe this 'shudder' a little more. I run a 2600 w/ a Fidanza, so if you can get across what you are talking about, I may be able to help.

It's a slight shake that only happens when I downshift to 2nd and sometimes 3rd. It doesn't happen if I match revs when downshifting, only if I'm completely off the throttle. The flywheel was brand new so I would think it was stepped correctly and I torqued it down to 100 ft-lbs. The pressure plate was torqued down to 25 ft-lbs.

The tranny mount makes perfect sense because there are 2 bolts that go into the tranny and 4 that go into the body. I only put 1 of the bolts that goes into the tranny back in because the 2nd one was being a b-tch and only 3 of the 4 in the body (I managed to cross thread one:mad: ).

Well then of course it's going to shake. One is speeding up to match the RPMs of the other. Rev-matching is your friend. Put that bolt back in, too.

Just to clarify, when I say tranny mount I'm speaking of the motor mount that bolts to the tranny from the body, not the bellhousing bolts that connect the tranny to the motor.
