I did a search and came up empty so I guess I'll post my question. My trans on my 1990 Talon TSi AWD 5 speed shifted perfectly smooth when I bought the car a month ago. Then my brakes went out and since I was in front of a shop I decided to allow them to fix my brakes instead of paying an equivelant amount to get it towed home and fix it myself. Now the transmission shifts CONSIDERABLY more notchy. Also it was locking out fourth gear once in a while...
I changed the transaxle oil to BG syncroshift and now 4th gear is pretty decent, the notchiness is still there but I guess it will take some time to wear itself in or something with the new oil (if that's how it works) Problem is it still won't downshift into 4th. What exactly would be causing this? Would it be a symptom of low fluid or a clutch disengagement problem or did the morons at the shop take my car out for a "spirited" drive forgetting to use the clutch (
) ruining my synchros? It doesn't grind going into any gear, although occasionally it is hard to get into and pops out of reverse which I guess is "normal" if you will for these transmissions. I'm not really familiar with the proper operation of DSM transmissions but from what I've been reading I guess the notchiness is basically how these transmissions are, although mine was VERY smooth when I first bought the car and before I had the brakes fixed. It does eventually go into 4th if I upshift into third then pull it down into 4th...
Any help is greatly appreciated, hope I gave enough info so someone might be able to answer.
