OK... So today was a rollercoaster of a day for the car. We put her on the dyno last night so we were ready to go this morning. And off we go for the tuning. Everything is going well and we get start up and idle just about as perfect as it can get for an AEM, and off to the next step. As were on that path the AEM froze. Now weve run into this problem with the car for the last week or so and nothing ever happened except us all being pissed off and having to start the car up again. Well this time she wouldnt start up again or reconnect to the computer. As were trying to figgure this out I notice C16 streaming from the compressor hosing. My first thought, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not good... lol. We come to find out while we were trying to reconnect to the ECU the damn injectors kept doin there thing. Thats right it filled the #1 and #2 cylinders like a mofo and filled the combustion chamber in #3 and #4. Then it filled the intake manifold, then ran from there into the intercooler and then to the hot side piping, then out the housing. Oh ya, that happened for real. And no I didnt get any video of the fuel and my sanity falling like a waterfall from my turbo. Sorry. But... after we get that set back under control we attack the problem head on. We borrowed another AEM from a good friend of ours who isnt needing it as of right now and that fixed EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So off to tuning, for real this time. The car is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! (Can everyone tell Im excited, lol.) We were running on wastegate only, no boost controller just yet. So on about 19-21psi the car made 368whp on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno, on a Dyno Jet you would see about 441whp. We have noticed a consistant 20% gain from Dyno to Dyno. The air to water intercooler was doin work and gettin the IAT's to 52 degrees durring the pulls. It was 78 degrees in the shop. After the pulls we did a compression test and she was 160 162 162 164, within 2% of eachother, its nice!!!!! We were reving her to 8000rpm for tonight and soooo much more to come tomorrow. Were going to be adding a boost controller so we can crank that baby up and make power. The turbo is simply amazing 19-21psi by 5500 rpm and she comes on so nice. Needless to say were very happy with how she did today. I cant wait till tomorrow. Stay tuned, no pun intended.

No race for us... I guess yesterday was too good to be true. We were making pulls all day turning up the boost each time and getting her as perfect as can be trying to get her ready for Saturday and right after a pull at 28psi the timing beld some how skipped a bunch of teeth and bent all of the intake valves. There is about 15-20 degrees of free play on the intake cam. Im very close to selling the car, thats how pissed off I was and still am 6 hours later. More diag later to come to see why it happened. My first thought was a broken timing belt tensioner, but we'll see.

Don't give up. You have come to far not to run it. And I don't want to see my favorite dsm get parted or sold to somebody that will not take care of it.

If I do sell the car it will be to someone who will take car of it and not part it out. They have to have the wanting and the ability to treat the car the way that it should be treated. Im still fairly upset over it still as Im sure I will be for a while. I do have extra parts that may work just fine, but well see.

If you do sell the car tell them over there to call chris back with a price $$$... I actually just spoke to them about a full sheet metal dash and interior for my car and my honda.. The cars got great work and great numbers.. Keep up the good work... It'll pay off real soon... They seem like real good people and they'll figure it out quick enough for ya... Good Luck

These things make me laugh....Not the timing belt fail...but after all the time and effort put into the car, something monor happens, and the owner decides to throw it away. #### fix the damn head and enjoy the car.

Simply put if you don't have the attitude to handle such things such as breakages then you won't make it out there. I don't like ppl who give up.

So what happened what caused it?

To reply to MidShipCivic and bastarddsm, you both have no idea of the stressers that go into a build like this so to make snide remarks like that shows how much class you do not have, and for that I am sorry. But the problem was caused by the timing belt tensioner breaking. The car should be up and running again by the middle of this week with my old Polk head. The car was dropping torque like a bad habbit at 6000-6200rpm and all the possible reasons for that were checked and this is the only thing that it may be. So hopefully this weekend we can finally go racing.

Ya, this is the first one that we have seen go out so we have had no reason to suspect one of failing. The ones that we have seen go out are on H22's, but for the most part no DSM's.

I was worried about that with mine so Im going to give the BLE solid tensioner a try. If my pistons and rods ever show up

Hey, Alex, I just read about the break. Sorry to hear, but I'm glad you're keeping the car and working with it. (I just bought a '91 GSX with half the chassis miles that I'm switching over to.)

You have no idea who I am, so what are you talking about? I have 4 cars to your one build
3 of which are more than 4 cylinder engines with large budgets, so don't even go there. I've had more than 4 consecutive failures with the 4g63.

1 mishap and you want to get mad and give up and that's class? It just isn't.
That's the wrong type of spirit to have in this game.

midship, what you said was an insult. He had a right to reply. Let that be the end of the argument in this thread or I will have to get a Mod involved. If you want to keep going then take it to PM's.

Renegade closed a couple of weeks ago, were going to try and make the race in Boise this weekend. I think thats one of the last tracks in the NW still open and that one is about to close as well.
