I'm a greenhorn when it comes to drag racing, but I went out last year in my n/t Laser and had some fun. I knocked a second off my time with each pass and got down to 17.7 or something pathetic Got to start somewhere though.
My local track is a 10 minute drive and every Wednesday they have the 'run what you brung' sort of event, so I'd like to start getting into drag racing a bit more. I'm just starting out with the 14b I rebuilt and some low-key bolt-ons for my fwd Laser. I just had some questions:
1. It sounds dumb but when do you know to start revving it for the launch? Because you pull up to the line and stage using the amber bulbs. Then you sit and wait for the amber lights to all fall and get to the green. But what is the indicator for when the lights will fall so you know when to start revving it?
Sometimes we stage and then sit for 25 seconds and then sometimes we stage and the lights fall right away. I asked two of the guys that work the track and they looked at me funny and said "just go when it turns green".
2. Also, I wanted to know about the water pit. Do you just pull into the puddle and do a burnout for a second and that's all there is to it? Do you even need to do this with summer street tires?

From my experience it all depends on when both drivers stage is when the tree will drop. I was told by an old timer when u see that last light before green go. Its because the brain and body take too long to react when u actually see green, I go on the third yellow.
2. Dont use water with street tires.

Usually as soon as both driver's are fully staged the lights will start to fall. Proper drag racing etiquette though is not to "stage" (both amber lights at the top) until both drivers are "pre-staged" (the first amber light).
As for the water box, drive around it if they will let you. If they make you drive through it just do a quick little spin just to clear the water off. Burnouts with street tires are a waste at best and can actually hurt your time at worst.
So the way it should work out is: you pull up in your lane and wait until they wave you forward. You dive around the water box and prestage while your opponent is doing his 2 minute burnout in his mustang. Once he pre-stages, you will both stage at the same time. As soon as you stage start revving up to your desired RPM. The lights will fall and you should slip the clutch out and go on the last yellow light. If you are spinning, give it less throttle.
I ran a 16.1 on my N/T with a catback, intake, and fresh OEM plugs and wires. Good luck!

My best so far is a 13.7 @ 105 with a 2.3 60ft. Running a evo3 at 23psi, stock cams and street tires. Rebuilding right now but will have 9:1 pistons an a PTE 6262 when I'm done with it.

Should be purchasing my GCS S3 cams and GCS Spring and Retainer set next week. Man I'm getting so close I can taste it. I have to go to car shows or come on here and look at pics for motivation. It starts slipping after the car being down so long. I am still trying to decide if I want a CC twin disc or Clutch Masters Twin Disk. Wonder which is better out of the two. I will probably got CC just dont know yet. Any one of yall running a Twin Disk setup?

^ Not a fan of music that drowns out the car but good vid anyway. That's what I like to see, not talking it, but doing it, only a couple sentences and a video or pics speaks the rest. This gives me hope for my fwd. Do you know how much power you're making by chance?

Just by going off ecmlink It's somewhere around 280-320hp. We have a dyno here at the collage so I'd like to try and run the car on it. But either way the setup is really good now, with bc272 added its what was missing. The 16g was flowing 36lb/min @ 18psi so id say that's great for that turbo. But I know that its also maxed and think it's time for the h1c I have. Planning to have it ready for next months races.

Nice, I run a very similar setup and hope to get the times you're pulling off next month when I plan to take it to the track.

UPDATE
I need to plumb my a2w tank lines and then I plan to make some passes two fridays from now at a lower power level due to injector size ( ID1000's) but plan to be making 650ish. I will post up results. I'm gonna try to get FIC 2150's or ID2000's before then but not sure I can swing it. The Sinister level 4 converter is loose as expected but does allow me to easily spool the s372r to 10 psi on the foot brake in less than 2.5 seconds. I know the top end will be effected but it'll work for now until I can get it sent back or purchase another one.

Making progress! Started dialing in the Laser tonight on E85 and I am very happy so far. 70 to 90 mph in 1.54 seconds starting at 2.4 psi and ending at only 18.5 psi and 0 to 103 mph pedaling 1st and 2nd in 4.46 seconds at 17.38 psi. Not to shabby in my opinion. Now the kicker...... gotta get it to the ground in 1st-2nd!!!
Going to the track Friday to start the fwd launch adventure
