Once again my DSM seems to be taking me in to a downward spiral. I go to get in my car last night after a party and it won't start. It turns over, its gettin electric power, but it just won't fire up. When i turn the ignition on I notice I can't hear the hum of my fuel pump. Damn, another fuel pump. What would be a reason that I keep burning out fuel pumps?? The one I have now is a 4 month old stock Mitsubishi pump and its already out. I mean $200+ and it lasted for less than half a year! Anybody know why this would be happening? I just ordered the Walboro 255 from slowboy and thats going in, but damn I'd really like to be able to spend money in other areas of the car other then just fixing her all the damn time. Any help would be great, thanks...

Are you running the right size amperage of fuse for it?

i have the same problem on my eclipse. the assclowns at alhambra mitsubishi took 3 weeks of bullshitting and still couldn't find out what's wrong with it. I fixed it myself in their parking lot in 30 minuites.

pop the cover to your fuel pump, snip the power wires, and run them directly to the battery with a 7.5 amp inline fuse on the positive side with a switch in between. If you don't like the idea of having many switches in you center console (i don't mind :D ) run a SPST relay wired off the ignition switch. There's something funky about the wiring on the fuel pump, and it isn't the stock relay, ignition or pump...

If you blew the fuse I don't think it would even turn over. When I installed a walbro, whenever I tried to start the car the 30A ignition fuse would blow and the car would be completley dead, no power to anything. After about 6 fuses it worked fine. I doubt your problem is a fuse, I'd try the rewire it's alot cheaper than a new pump.

another thing to make sure your fuel tank is not rusted with debris. Drain your fuel tank and you should see those debris. Rinse off the tank with cheap 87 octane. If your fuel tank is rusting itself away, I recommend replacing it with another one or upgrade to a fuel cell. Good luck.

An obvious thing, make sure your fuel filter is clean. I had a Ford that kept burning out fuel pumps and it turned out there was a second fuel filter than nobody knew about (even Ford) so it never got changed even during a factory service. That was $300 a pop and I went through three pumps before a mechanic friend found it.
