Is there anything you can do to your stock cams?? Like what are regrinds?? This might be a dumb question but i want a set of hks but to expensive and was wondering if the machine shop can do anything to mine???

I think you will find most people shy away from the regrinds. I have heard good about the Crowers and HKS. Maybe someday someone can have a shootout with the different grinds to see who has the best cams for DSMs. I believe most people have valvetrain issues with the regrinds. Possible wear issues. Anybody with regrinds please post your feelings because I'm curious.

I would imagine that any machine shop competent enough to do a good job would charge more than what you could find a set of HKS cams for and then you have to worry about the quality of the cams. Regrinds are more for people that have a specific grind in mind that might not be available or for an application where aftermarket cams aren’t readily available. Designing the right cams is a lot harder than you think. Looking at your profile you really shouldn’t be putting too much thought into cams anyway

Happy,

Regrinds are cams that have extra material welded onto the lobe (of say, a stock camshaft) and then ground down to form a specific grind. If done correctly, regrinds should be strong and not have any problems. However, I would (and have) purchase aftermarket cams and have the assurance that nothing will happen to them. Good luck in your search.

Stock cams are fine for minimal and even moderate modifications. If you don't have that much in the way of perofmance parts, there's no need to get ahead of yourself and skip straight to the cams. Just take your time and work the car until you need the cams. Take care.
