Hey guys..

from what I can tell, my lifter are knocking a bit.
The know is at its loudest when are is just 1/2 warmed up.

When I'm at operating temp, they usually stocp, but will go on and off every once in a while (not too often)

How urgen is that to repair ?

Not very, the lifters tick on all DSM's if you really want to spend the 300 for new style lifters you can.

Later,

My 1.8 has been knocing for about 2 years. So far nothing is wrong with it that I can tell(knock on wood). The sound is just annoying!

-This is how the shop do it. take less than an hour with air tool, you must have the "threaded rod" tool, check the timing belt page on VFAQ.com for more info on the tool.
-Remove valve cover & top timing belt cover, zip tie the timing belt to the cam spoockets on several spots, use the threaded rod tool to hold down the hydrolic tensioner through the acess hole, loosen the cam bearing cap starting from the center first go toward both ends, set aside the cam+spoocket+timing belt assm, replace lifters, reinstall cams assm, reinstall & torque down cam bearing caps staring from the end goes toward center, reistall valve cover, remove threaded rod, hand crank #1 piston to TDC, make sure all timing marks line up, reinstll timing belt cover.

Um... yeah you don't have to take the cams out just pop the rocker arms and pull the old ones out and put the new ones in. And you can get a set of "lifters" (actually lash adjusers :p) pretty cheap if you go look on the "other board". $7.74 each....

I just used 5w-30 mobil synthetic and it stopped. Thinner oil at start-up still the same protection when at operating temp.

i would only change the lifters if you're getting phantom knock due to the lifter tick, unless you have to do head work. try switching your oil filter and the oil you use. that can help.

i am using an AMsoil filter and 10W-40 during the summer and 10w-30 in the winter. mine ticks for about 2 mins after initial startup then goes away and never comes back.

Both instances (in two previous messages) apply to me 100%

It did improve when I switched oil to castrol GTX 10W-40,
and I does shut up when I rev it to about 6500 rpm.
the only difference is that they start ticking about 1 min after the start and go on till It gets worm (about 3-4 more mins.)

I switched from 5w-30 Mobil to 5w-20 Castrol and mine went away. It only comes back when the oil gets real dirty like right before i change it.

I ran Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner, no more tickage:cool:

But it blew the cracks in my exhaust manifold  (oh well, needed to be replaced anyway if the only thing holding it together was carbon deposits.)

-Can you still get MCCC? That's really good stuff, I went to several local Dodge & Chrysler dealers, none of them have any.

That's where I got mine, went into the local Dodge dealer, into the parts department and asked for it, the clerk went into the back room and brought me out two cans, I think it was like $5.50 a can.
