I have a 96 talon tsi, I have the big greddy front mount with greddy piping. I am gonna run a blow through setup with a gm maf. I was told that the distance between the bov and the throttle body on this setup is too short to run the maf between the bov and the throttle body. Has anyone done this setup with the greddy piping?

Its going to be a tight fit and yhe pipinf you are using is kinda to small unles you get a coupler inducer for the 3-3.5 inch gm maf..the blowby way is more for pople that are not using the stock piping location more for people that have it short routed...the distance is really nothing its the room you basically do not have...

THe only reason I wanted to put the maf between the bov and throttle body, is because I heard and read on this site that it helps alot with tuning, and is a all around better setup for makin power. Any idea how difficult or how much it would cost to change the routing of my intercooler piping?

take the upper pipe to a muffler shop, show them what you want done, they should be able to weld the adapter to go up to the size of the maf, and could cut the bov flange off and weld it on lower to give more room for the maf

THanx, I'll give that a try, is there any chance anyone knows the total length of the maf plus the reducers to make it fit on a ic pipe. THere may be a chance I can get away with the ic pipe i have now. I need the total length from begining of one reducer to the end of the other.
Thanx

I've got the exact same problem you have. I have a big greddy fmic (which really doesn't matter because it routes back to the stock ic location) and a dave brode upper ic pipe. I want to put my 3" maf somewhere in the upper ic pipe between the bov and the throttle body. I got the 2.25" to 3" reducers from RRE; but I don't know if I would recommend them. The 3" coupler side would not fit over the maf, since the maf is 3.25". I had to hack the sh*t out of the 3" coupler end. I hope it doesn't leak...:(

I've got the maf with a coupler on each side sitting at home. Don't know the exact dimension, but it's longer than I thought it would be end to end. I'm going Saturday to an exhaust shop to see if they could somehow make me up a pipe to fit it all together. I'll let you know how it goes. And PM me if I forget to post back into this thread coupler to coupler dimensions for you.

I also have the Greddy FMIC and I said screw it and got Wes Hess at www.hesspower.com to make me some custom I/C piping for the whole car. It is ALOT shorter rout. My BOV is lower down. It turned out to be a lot cleaner set up.

I am putting the translator in this weekend :thumb:

It is a good idea to leave at least 6" b/w the bov and the maf. Any closer and when the bov opens, it will allow too much air to flow backwards through the maf, giving odd symptoms when you shift.

this depends alot on the type/brand of reducers you use, but with mine it is at least 6" probably closer to 8" or 9"

Blk99-- I have my 1st reducer hanging off of the stock throttle body elbow then the maf then the second reducer clamped to a cut down section of the brode pipe. It works and I have at least 1.5' between the bov and the maf.

This really is a myth for the most part. Drawthrough and blowthrough will work essentially the same for 90+% of users (this is the number Mike Licht gave--the translator vendor). Do which ever floats your boat. I had drawthough and just switched to blowthrough because I was bored one day. Works the same except for venting.

oK, Justin. Dont trust my oppinion on this?;) Here is the deal. With the RRE couplers, the maf/couplers together is exactly 10" long. Remember that the pipes on either side will go into the couplers about 2". So you will need about 6" total of open space between the pipes.

I trust u dave, it's just lately ur not exactly an easy guy to get a hold of. Thanx for the info though, not that it matters much anyways, since I still don't have my maf translator. I guess the longer I wait for the translator the better chance I will have of gettin cams and the translator at the same time.

If you guys go to www.dejontool.com they have all the stuff you need there for a blow through set up. Without the hasstle of going to any muffler shops. LOL Its kinda pricy but i think it will work for you guys.

I'm a newbie to these MAF-T's and I was just wondering, after reading the explanation on http://www.dejontool.com/Fuel.htm , it seems like it is the same thing as an AFC....does this give you simliar power gains as the AFC or is it only used for blowthrough for venting or something....
