Well I have 272's cams and the magnus motorsports intake manifold waiting to put on the car. I want to get a ported head and upgraded valves. With all the works. I have a spare 2g head laying here with all 16 valves bent. Its ported a bit on the intake side but im debating getting a ported 1g head or what i should do? If i get a ported head where should i get one from? Well thanks for the info. I plan on buying this head buy the end of the month.

dsm shops make the best ported heads. Look at fp, sbr, magnus, etc etc etc. there are just so many places that sell dsm parts that can port a head and they will do the best job out there (better than your local machinest). If you where going the 1g head route i would just get new valve seals and slap it on, the flow just by that will be a great improvement. RRE i think it is has a great write up on putting a 1g head on a 2g car

I have a friend that is selling a heavily ported head with web springs/retainers, has about 2k miles on it since full rebuild. Then he parted the car out. He is asking $900 for it, has ferrea valves I believe.
I can get the details for you if youd like, just shoot me a PM.
All it needs is your cams put in it and it will be good to go.

Yeah i really want to get it from a dsm specialist. What im really asking is who does the best porting for the money? And i actually do not have a 1g head so i guess i would have to pay for the core b/c i have a 2g for a core.

Most shops that I know of, won't take a 2g head in as a core towards a "stage x" 1g head. Unless you want that 2g head done and wait longer.

Oh ya, BJ's does a nice job, but here is what you can expect to get. I sent my head off to them for the "Stage IV" (that's an $1150.00 port job). The head I sent them was a mint, perfect head. I stamped the head with my name on it in several places. So, finally I get the head and it looks good, not the head I sent them though. I think to myself oh well a head is a head. Wrong, first my cams would not turn when I installed them. Line hone them. Cool, bolt the head on and get it torqued down. Put the valve cover on, oh wow, three valve cover bolt holes are stripped out. Put the exhaust mani on. Three studs pull out do to a crappy helicoil install. And one of the intake bolt holes was stripped out.

So, if I had to do it again, I'd go with Buschur.

buschur huh? they are kinda expensive. But is o-ringing the head important i mean i want her hoged out i dont want to have to redo it. And on there site it says that core is required i dont have a 1g head so what would i do in that case. Thanks

Well i talked to martin over at taboo speed shop. Im thinking of going with his stage 3 head. It looks really good and he is going to cut me a pretty good deal even though i dont have a 1g head for a core. Has anyone heard anything about his heads or anything like that. He says he has a bench flow tester in shop so he can check the flow of the ports as they get more and more. Which sounds really good just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with him.
