please dont flame me. i really am curious and willing to learn and thats what i want to do. so sorry if this is a 'newb' question. i however do not think it is:thumb: . so like the title says. what is the difference? is one better than the other? does one have a better long 'game' and the other a better short 'game' like 1/4 vs. autoX. thanks a lot!

A Shortblock refers to the amount of assembly done to the engine, which means that the engine is remanufactured with out the cylinder head(s), lifters, oil pump, and gaskets. A Longblock is a remanufactured engine, which in includes the remanufactured cylinder head(s) installed on the engine and torque to proper specification. The lifters and pushrods installed and adjusted, a new oil pump and a complete gasket set. It does not include any pans, covers, or manifolds (i.e. Intake, exhaust, timing cover, etc…)

^^ Dont mean its remanfactured ^^

It means that the engin is this.

LONGBLOCK: Head, Bottom End, Intake And Exhaust Manifolds. (most of the time the manifolds come with it.)

SHORTBLOCK: Bottom End.
That is all.

It'll vary between suppliers. Some "long" blocks include covers, some don't. Sometimes "short" blocks include stuff you'd think they wouldn't. You'll have to confirm with the vendors you're considering, if they don't have it posted.
