ok so i went to the dealer the other day to get a lower timing belt cover for my friends 94 gsx because his timing belt ate his. well they gave us a timing belt cover for a 6 bolt, his obviously isnt a 6 bolt and now i cant find the receipt, stupid me. it lines up with the holes, but it seems to stick out to far, hitting the crank pully and things. I know they gave us the wrong one because i called them and asked for the part number for a 94 gsx and they gave me a different one. Is it possible to use a 6 bolt cover on a 7 bolt??? Maybe i could shave down the screw extension where it stick up a bit.

I have done timing belts on both 1g's 6 bolts and 7's. And if I recollect properly there is a difference on how the crank fits, this would impact the overall shape of the cover. This is based on remembering that the sprocket has to be removed to get the balance belt off a 6 bolt, but not with a 7 bolt.

IMHO since it is from a 6 bolt take a loss and keep it, you can use it later down the line. Secondly this is a fairly important part making proper fitment imperative to serve it's function and keep any belts from rubbing.

What dealer did you get it from? I know there is one dealer in PA that is extremely DSM Tuner friendly (although I can't recollect the name...) although I'm sure anyone from DSMCA would probobly remember off the top of their head.

Anyway, bring it back to the dealer and tell them what happened. If you haven't damaged the part at all I'm sure they'll let you swap em'. I miss going to the parts counter at Rockville Mitsu... really cute Parts Counter girl :)

I got it from Lancaster Mitsubishi in none other than lancaster, pa. They were very friendly and said they get alot of orders for the parts i ordered (i ordered balance shaft bearings and a mirage stubshaft to remove my balance shafts and a whole bunch of exhaust gaskets because i had a leak and the lower timing cover) The guy said that if i had a 3000gt i would have gotten alot of deals because he is in 2 3kgt clubs. You might be thinking of York Mitsubishi.
