i have decided all the smoke, and power loss was due to bad rings, and my dipstick shot out once. Any one know how much these things run. And how hard it is to replace them? I may have already posted a thread on this. I can't remember. thanks

sounds, like fun, thanks for the input. Should I go with any better of rings while I'm at it? And since I'll have it in peices, should I look into better gaskets and stuff?

Yeah that would be a good decision, and since you have to take the head off anyway, you'll have to replace the head gasket.

You don't HAVE to take the head off. You can do it all from underneath the car and just pull the crank. Give you a chance to replace the crank bearings and the rings. You should have the cylinders honed to ensure that the rings seat properly.
