I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a performance header for a 1.8L eclipse, or if they even made them? I've looked all over and can't seem to find any so if anyone knows I'd appreciate the help.

dont bother.

Lets not even get started on how much horsepower you'd probably lose due to an aftermarket header. Losing back-pressure to that beast would cause its world to fall apart. You have to realize this car makes 66hp to the wheels. 66... my lawn mower can almost do 66. My one cylinder motocross bike can put down damn near 50. It's a useless quest. Just paint your stock one and take the head shield off.

Just do what I did to my old '94 1.8 and gasket-match port and polish the exhaust manifold. You will gain a few horses from it, and it's not hard to do. Please remember that while the 1.8 does not put out a lot in the horsepower department, it does make a decent amount of torque. The torque curve comes up really early in that motor because of the way Mitsu designed it. Combined with the short gearing in the tranny, and the 1.8 feels a lot faster than it is. If you want to make more horsepower out of the 1.8, you need to move the torque curve towards the upper RPM range, which would cause you to lose low-end torque. Here's the reciepe that I used for my 1.8 to get some more power:
1.) Gut the cat.
2.) Port/Polish the exhaust manifold.
3.) Get a 2.5" cat-back.
4.) Build a CAI by cutting the front off of the resonator (where the stock intercooler would be, looks like a milk jug).
5.) Get a K&N
6.) Advance spark timing by 4 degrees (requires premium fuel).
7.) Get an adjustable cam-gear. I never did this, but it would help a little.
8.) Get a hotter cam. Again, I didn't get to this step.

Or, you could just turbocharge it. But, Steps 1-7 should cost under a grand, and net you almost 130HP to the crank with proper tuning. I had approximately 120HP with steps 1-6.

i doubt it. how can you verify you picked up 30 hp from those mods? don't say gtec pro please.

the 1.8 puts out what, 90? to the crank stock and going to 120 is like a 30% gain. thats alot really, and I don't think you did it by advancing the timing and putting an exhaust on the car.

The numbers were verified using a horsepower calculator, a friend, and a stopwatch. Not the most elegant method, but pre-mod and post-mod numbers were taken. The actual number that I got after all the mods was 127.6 HP, so I rounded it down to 120 to account for a fudge factor. I didn't believe the numbers, either, but once you see exactly how restrictive the intake, exhaust manifold, exhaust, cat, and silencer are, and how conservative the timing is set on this car, you will understand. I would like to see anyone with a 1.8 back these mods up with some dyno numbers, but I don't have the car anymore. The numbers could be wrong, and there are a million things I can think of which make a manual time test invalid, but the point is that you can definately get a decent amount of power out of that motor with just a little bit of work and ingenuity. Anything is better than 92HP, right?

Matt.

ok, if you say so. I've never looked through a 1.8 motor, so its just hard to believe in a 30% gain from those mods. relatively thats like gaining 130 hp on a z06 vette from simple breather mods(obviously the z06 runs efficient setup out of the box, just stating for numbers comparison).

its alot, but then again.....120 hp from a NA 1.8 isnt' really that hard to believe in the general scheme of things, there are plenty of gm,ford, honda, hyundai and every other make doing at least that. know what I mean?
