Hey, I got a question. I myself, havn't rebuilt an engine before. I have a 2.0 from a 92 plymouth laser that needs rebuilding(timming belt broke). Now the engine was from a n/t, so I belive the cams are differnt(i don't know for sure if that is true). I have a 91 laser turbo. Now would it be worth the money to rebuild/port/upgrade the 2.0 from the 92 with the cams from a turbo 2.0 or would it be cheaper better to buy a rebuilt head from a turbo 2.0 and upgrade the block(stronger pistons rods, make it into a 2.3 stroker)?

I think you are comparing apples with oranges here.

In any case building a forged motor over a stock cast style motor will be a better choice if you plan to run higher boost.

Otherwise, what appears to be the other part of your questionm is will the non-turbo block work with your turbo:
Okay assuming it is a 6-bolt, then here are the differences. Basically the head as you stated is exactly the same, only the cams differ, and could be swapped over (or upgraded all-together). On the bottom end side, the pistons are different and have no oil squirers. Also the NT has no knock sensor boss in it, however you can simply use the BOSS that is behind the 3rd (I believe) cylinder, and everything will work fine. If you do wish to use the bottom end from the NT then do the following:
- You will need to drill and tap for piston oil squirters - The machinist will need to drill the holes into the main galleys... It is a very straight forward process especially since the locating marks are already there, mitsu just didnt drill them.
- Next you will need to buy oil squirters (should be cheap, even from mitsu)
- Replace the pistons, honestly I would go with 2g pistons and have then fit for the 1g Rods.. YES, THE 6-BOLT TURBO, AND NON-TURBO RODS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME! <-- Kinda scary huh.

So this is what I would say, if you are looking for 450 or less at wheel horse and have a hold on a non-turbo 6bolt. I would get 2g pistons and do the little machining to the block and the rods. I would also swap at least to the 1g 5-speed cams. This is the best bang for the buck out there.

Otherwise if you are looking for more than 450 wheel horse I would run the ross/eagle combo and all arp hardware, and again just do the $100 extra machining on the non-turbo block.

Basically if you already have a handle (or a good deal) on a 6-bolt non turbo block I would do everything to it... Turbo 6-bolt blocks in rebuildable condition generally go for 250 or more.

Happy I am done with my whole 6-bolt rebuild and good luck =]
