As you all know or perhaps don't......I bought a 92' Talon TSI about 6 weeks ago and a week later the timing belt jumped a few teeth because the A/C compressor belt broke and got wrapped up in the timing belt cover.

Here's a few questions I have about this:

1.Do YOU think I bent valves? I counted 3 teeth past the crank ^ mark and the cams lined up.

2. What would be a good way to find out (except assuming and pulling the head) because if the intake valves are open during the compression stroke it will never build compression, so a compression gauge is outta the question?

3. ANYone have a good less than 100,000 mile 1G complete head to sale?

4. Where is the best place for me to order the timing belt and tensioner from.....I am in Germany ok.

I would really appreciate your input on this. I have heard that sometimes you can get lucky and not bend any valves.....I am just hoping I AM LUCKY.

3 teeth seems to be the line. Sometimes you are good and sometimes you are not. I really don't know how to check, but I am sure someone here will reply to that.

As for parts, get only Mitsubishi parts. I do not know if they will ship to Germany, but it is worth a shot. Unless you have Mitsu dealers in Germany, which I am sure you do. Either way, go Mitsu parts.

Probably, maybe, definately, YES! 2 or more teeth off = bent valves.

A compression test will tell you which cyclendars have the bent ones, but your more than likely you are going to need a new head anyway, so it doesn't matter.

I don't have one, but if it helps, any head from a 2.0 motor (even a non-turbo will work) You have a 5-speed or auto? Depending on which, you may need to reuse the cams in your car (asuming they are not damaged). One other thing to look out for is they changed the size of the outter exhaust mani studs half way through 92.

Conceli has decent prices, and most online stores, like RRE, sell complete timing belt kits too.

Put the belt back where it's supposed to be.. & do a compression test. I skipped a few teeth myself last year & put it back to test compression to see which valves were bent & how bad off I was... I had a spare head ready to go on.. Well I tested the compression & got 150s accross the board... needless to say I've ran several 12 sec passes this season w/ it & it's still running strong. Some say that I might have tweaked the valves a bit & might be running a little slower than I should.. but I won't know for sure till this winter when I build a motor & take mine down.. So I would at least put it back so everything lines up & test the comression... will only add 20 min to your teardown time... but could save you a few hours & alot of $$$ if everything is still fine.

When you line things back up, there should be no reason you can't do a compression test. That is going to be your only indicator without taking the head off. You didn't jump enough to make a lot of noise from valve to piston contact, so you won't be able to just listen to it. I have seen a lot of 1G heads in eBay. Most are stripped, but getting small parts shouldn't be too hard to fill in what you broke.

I really appreciate all of your responses. I am praying that I can just line everything back up and have good compression. I was talking to someone at MachV the other day and he said its possible to jump the belt and NOT bend valves so keep your fingers crossed for me. Man!!! That sure would save me alot of money But I am still expecting the worst so I won't be let down. Thanks.
