Ok, I did the vacume line removal, Purge removal, and EGR blockoff yesterday. I also installed a breather filter. Does the valve cover really need to vent through the PCV valve, and the breather hose? Can't I just cap off the PCV at the valve cover, and cap it off at the intake as well? I think that the breather filter should be enough. Also, what exactly does the Thermo vacuum valve do? I plugged that one too, but not really sure what it's original purpose was. Also, this may be a stupid question, but why does the BOV vent back into the air intake hose, and also straight into the intake mannifold? why does it need to vent into both places?

Because your maf has measured the air coming in and it still expects that air to be there after your bov opens....

I found a bolt that threads into my valve cover where my PCV valve was, and then I capped off the hole in my intake manifold with a vaccume line plug. No more hot, used up air entering my intake! My breather filter does the ventilation job just fine by its self. I can feel da power!

Uhh.... not meaning to rain on your choke-off-everything parade, but.... well, do an hour of reading and find out what things do FIRST.

You seem to have no grasp of the BOV idea.

Ok smart one, Do you know what the intake manifold is? How about the intake hose harmonica? Good. I said "Why does the BOV have to vent into the Intake hose, and also dirrectly into the intake manifold. This is a legitmate question. Scince you don't know the answer, you just had to be an ass and try to tell me that I don't have a clue. I am not an idiot, I know that the BOV has to vent back into the intake hose because the air has already been meetered my the MAS, and venting it back into the atmosphere would cause you to run rich between shifts. I simply want to know why it also has a line going into the intake manifold.

I believe this is also to prevent the car from running rich. Everyone knows that if you vent to the atmosphere with a stock BOV, you can smell the gas when you shift or come to a stop, but the line going over to the intake is a direct comparison of what the car thinks it running boost-wise and what it actually is.
I'm not exactly sure that there is a noticeable gain by doing this alone, but it could ensure that you putting a little more fuel into the cylinders without rewiring your fuel pump. Run it like this for a while and see if there is a change in your gas mileage, this will tell you if it serves a purpose.

do you want everyone to hate you? do you not want people to help you? And what do the intake components you have listed have to do w/ where the BOV vents to? the BOV question has been beaten to death. So if you would have just simply used the search function for the forums you would have found tons of answers to this stupid question. The BOV vents back into the intake because this is air that the maf has already metered, so if you just vented to the atmosphere and wasted this metered air then your car would think it has more air than it really does and thereby cause your car to run rich. Now its true some people have experience no problems venting to the atmosphere but then again what do you gain by doing so? the cool "pssssht"? whatever. Next time post all questions like this where they belong... in the Newb section
