I dont even have a DSM yet, but im pretty sure I'm getting one in August, (ill be commuting so i need a car, and a dsm is what im looking at).

I plan on buying 1g AWD turbo dsm, and I'm already planning what mods I'm going to get and in the order I want them.

1. I'll do a tuneup with all the free mods.
2. 3" RNR turboback with o2 eliminator and external dump
3. 2g Exhaust Manifold (wheres a good place for one? should I get ported??)
4. Boost Gauge
5. MBC
6. Dejon Intake (what one should I get??? )
7. Not sure.. at first was thinking rims, but now I care more about performance, the rims were gonna be $600, so whats a good power mod, or a multiple of mods, for $600..

At first I was looking at the $500 FMIC from dejon, but I havent read good things about it. Maybe Intercooler piping? 16G?

Gimme some ideas!!!

good plan all in all

Dont bother with a front mount yet. I would suggest along with your other stuff to get the upper and lower intercooler pipes/throttle body elbow. And if you have any money left, get a pocket logger. Very helpful, you WILL need to know your knock counts, timing advance etc, in relation to rpm, boost pressure, and others.

As well, a Walbro 190lph fuel pump or a used 3kgt/stealthTT 190lph pump can be had used for cheaper.

Once this is done, 16g, 550s and either a S-AFC or a GM maf translator.

Have fun.

Oh we also have a great little "recipe" here for this very thing. It is on the first page, just follow the links. There is a similar one at RoadRace Engineering, and Buscher Racing.

PS, good choice on cars, you'll love it

Step 1: Timing Belt!
*I held off on this, and ended up buying a whole new engine as my first mod!

Thanx,

I would say get a 2g mas air sensor. The stock one isn't worth crap on a 1g. You'll need the wiring harness with it though. Not only will this mod give you some more ponies but it'll be better down the line anyway once you start doing bigger mods like turbos.

is the 2g mas ok with the stock 450cc injectors? I heard it flows more air, and needs bigger injectors to work properly.

as well, don't worry about the maf right now. The stock one is good for well over 400hp. For sure. The 2g maf upgrade is way down the road.

Maybe after 2 turbo upgrades, front mount, maybe even cams. And you will need to tune it with an afc of some sort.

its up to you of course, but I'd say just follow the several good tuning guides on the net.

Dont even bother with the 2g MAS, get the DSM Translater and a GM 3" MAF ! Alot better, flows even more air than the 2g MAS can, plus with the 2g MAS u will need a SAFC. WIth the Translater u dont, it comes with its own tuning tool

haha.. Im sorry but I just completely disagree

"(ill be commuting so i need a car, and a dsm is what im looking at). "

I would never EVER suggest to anyone to buy a DSM as a commuter car. They just like to break to often :)

larryd beat me to it.

i agree, these cars are not that reliable, especially if you are just getting one you have no idea what to expect. Im guessing you commuting to school, and you don't want to miss classes all the time because your dsm is having a fit. These cars CAN be decently reliable but it takes time of owning the car to be comfortable with it.(to know whats been fixed, what will need to be fixed soon, common gremlins with the car, comfortably wrenching on car, etc.) "New" 1g's can be a pandora's box.

after 4 years of owning my 93, I'm finnally confident I can get to work EVERY day. you know what I did? I bought another car. still have the 93, but don't depend on it.

/knocks on wood/

My car has been very reliable, but I don't go to the track alot. I do drive it hard, but I don't abuse it. And I maintain it. Alot.

But for a first car, or for a person who doesn't want to put some time/money into it, I strongly suggest against it.

It is either a labour of love, or you will hate it.
