I tried a keyword search but I think I'm an idiot so I'm just gonna go ahead and start a new thread here heh...

was a the pick-a-part yard today and saw a pretty much gutted out 91 eclipse...nothing but the body shell, a turbo cluster, a short block, and a valve cover inside the car...

what I want to make sure of is the short block that is left is that a turbo block?? how can I tell?? are there certain identifying numbers on a turbo block that verifies it from a non-turbo block??

where are they at??

is it worth me trying to purchase this shortblock?? like is there really any difference in the parts between the shortblock on a turbo/non-turbo block??

I ask mainly because I can get it all for $35 LOL but dont' know if it's even worth it if I only want the head and all...also I saw the intake to the engine sitting inside the car too...would that be worth getting??

first off make sure its a 2 litre which is on the valve cover. when you say "turbo cluster" do you mean that the gauge cluster in the car has a turbo gauge on it? If so then i'd pretty much assume that the engine is turbocharged. if you're still not sure then look for the turbo... if you don't know where to look then check under the heat shield between the block and the radiator... look for the BCS which is a little selenoid that is bolted ontop of the air can, its round and should have two hoses going to it or at least two nipples for two hoses. Look for a bov, should be mounted upside down on the intercooler pipe. Look for the smic! if you are standing infront of the car looking at it then it will be in the bottom left corner of the bumper, infront of the tire. there are tons of ways to see if its a turbo block.

The turbo pistons have a capital T cast in the tops. Probably the easiest way to tell looking at the shortblock.

Yes, there are a bunch of differences, and it's probably not worth it unless you are planning on building a turbo engine.

Like I said....There's NOTHING left to this car literally....there's the body shell with the short block anchored into it and the cluster was sitting loose in the car and so was the valvecover...which from what I can tell is the turbo valve cover(it's silver with raised red print and says 2000 on it) but since the car is completely stripped and there's no exhaust...no nothing...hell they even took the back bumper off it and doors and groundeffects so I can't find any emblems, etc as identifiers....

I mean, it's messed up how little is left of this car LOL...it's got four wheel disc brakes if that helps any but the tranny is gone and I know it's fwd at least so it couldn't be a gsx at the least...but ya, the turbo cluster was there but I still don't know...sigh...there are no actual I.D. numbers cast into the block itself to tell it apart from other engines??

where abouts on the top of the pistons?? center?? right side, etc?? there's a bunch of gunk on these things so I guess I'll wire brush the #### outta them heh...

so there's no difference in the rods, crank, block for a turbo engine vs. a non-turbo engine except for a "T" in the pistons??

same everything except a few things.the T stamped in the pistons is in the top middle.the intake manifold, right above the fuel rail has 2 vacuum connections on the turbo, one small and one slightly larger.those are the only to ive noticed.
