Did you torque it evenly - over & over until they all pulled 2-3 ft lbs? It takes a little while with a new gasket - & you don't put RTV on all areas of a new gasket - just around the half moon & cam areas.

Its up to you about the RTV
I went the safe route and did the whole gasket. I cant see any harm in this prectice, but i cant back it up too much because when i fixed my gaskets up there i havent been able to drive it since due to winter and not being registered and such.
Probably time for a new valve cover. Is it worse than it used to be before you first fixed it? If its an improvement i'd keep it for at least a while, make it somewhat worthwhile to buy and install all that stuff and then have to buy new ones cause of it.
If you re-top your oil, everything should be fine. Just tell your buddies they're jealous their crappy engines dont have signature problems

I read a post before about an oil cap gasket for this problem instead of buying a new oem one. Can I get that gasket at any auto parts store? Correct me if I'm wrong.

You don't HAVE to buy just the gasket, you can actually pickup a cap for about the same price+hassle of putting on the gasket itself. But call your local mitsu or parts store and tell em the gasket. They can hook yah up.

Hey thanks for the help. But just one more thing for peace of mind. I had orignally thought (and still do) that the problem was from the oil cap since I've read so many posts on this topic. But the other day I went to a shop that does work on a lot of dsms and this dood told me that the oil cap wasnt the main problem for the little oil pool I get under the spark plug cover (that i have to wipe down all the time) but that he said something like the valve cover on dsms are weak against heat and therefore need to put some JB (or JD) Weld and have it dry for the day. Does that sound familiar or make sense to anyone?

I had the same problem, check around the screws on the valve cover, if they were tightend down too hard they can crack the valve cover.

Also make sure the spark plugs are tight. One of mine somehow worked its way loose once and I got oil in the spark plug well, in addition to the car running like crap (misfires, etc.).

crak in valve cover problem leakin oil
my valve cover has a small crack under the plastic cover where sparkplug holes are. and it leaks oil and when windflow hits it it splatters everywhere. is there anyway i can relive the pressure to it so it dont leak out like unhook the hose on the passenger side of valve cover. leaving the nipple open and plug off the hose?

Use JBWeld. I cracked my valve cover in two places putting it back on once and I used JBWeld and it fixed it perfectly. No leaks at all.

Oil on valve cover
After getting my car back a week ago, every time I pop the hood there is oil on the top of my valve cover, right by the DOHC letters. I wipe it off and take it for a drive, pop the hood and there it is again. I tightend down all the valve cover bolts, none of them looked like they were leaking anything. It looks like it must be leaking from the oil cap. Could it be leaking from the oil cap if there is TOO MUCH oil in the car? I checked the dipstick and the oil level is higher then the 2nd notch on the dipstick. Any ideas?

The seal on the oil cap does start to leak sometimes, but also the bolts for the valve cover down by the plugs also will leak if they are loose, so if you tightened them its either time for a new gasket or oil cap, also drain the excess oil, never overfill.

oil cap most likely...
remove the spark plug cover and check if the valley is full...
if not oil cap, then check valve cover gasket, dipstick etc... good luck

Yeah the spark plug cover is off and there is nothing in the valley part of it. Just some on the top of the valve cover by the oil cap.

it's probably the oil cap. Mine oil leak looks just exactly likes yours when I had my old worn out crack oil cap on, I just bought an oem one and the leak is gone, so give it a shot
