I think my fuel pump may be blown. Would it be possible to buy a Walbro high flow pump or something similar while the rest of the car is stock. I don't need any kind of Air/Fuel controller yet do I?

ok, so the 255 is a foolish upgrade right away, but what about the supra pump?

yep, and it costs a fortune in comparison.

The only other one I can see that is ok is the RX7 TurboII pump. Single turbo 2g cars. They flow around 200 and are similarly priced.

there are a couple of reasons why i can see spending 200 on a supra pump.
1- better flow, not much... but still better
2- quiet, it comes from a luxury sports car... how many ceo's want to hear their fuel pump whining all the time?
those are the only two advantages i can see, otherwise the walbro is the way to go. does anyone know anything about the cozmo or welden pumps? aside from the cost being WAY higher than the 255

go to www.3si.org and get yourself a stock fuel pump off a 3000gt vr4. I got mine for 45 shipped. They flow 180lph(240 rewired). It'll work fine with a stock system and will even be a good pump once u start modding. They are always sellin there's on that site because they have nothing to do with em once they upgrade there pumps. So its like us selling stock 1g bovs, everyone has em for sale, but they are still a good upgrade for some people.. good luck man

there is nothing wrong with running a walbro pump on a stock application it is one less thing you will be changing in the future.
Your fuel pressure regulator will keep the pressure way down any way, that is what it is for.

It will unless your running a really big-ass pump, like the 255HP or Supra pump. Then the pump will outflow what the stock regulator can handle.

So I could just go with a Walbro non hi-pressure pump and keep my stock regulator or would it be a good idea to change the regulator?

The Walbro 190 will be fine with the stock regulator. There seems to be some debate on how important an AFPR is with the regular Walbro 255-- some say you need one, and some are running that pump with the stock regulator. Yes, it's "better" to get an AFPR, but for now you may be OK.

I'm running the Wahlboro 255 HP and it works for now. Your stock regulator will work but you'll probably be running rich at idle and WOT.

If you haven't alredy, move to an open filter for the intake which will help lean it out. I use an AFC but I still run rich at WOT. You can make due for now.

No use getting a pump that you'll have to replace down the line, go with the 255 HP for $100.

Thanks for your support everyone. I think I am just going to go with the Walbro 255. But if anyone has some reason it would be terrible mistake let me know.

i think you've read enough upsides and downsides that you can make a good choice. just remember, the 255 is why it's also called whinebro... just going by what others say

Now my next question would be is what kind of mods can a 255 non hi-pres pump support? Just so i'll know in the future.:D

it can support quit a bit man. If you getta 255 you'll be set for good. I also know one person runnin the 255 with everything else in the fuel systom being stock. He does not have it re-wired or anything, and he's runnin a lil rich and has a lumpy idle. I dunno could be more wrong with his car than just the pump, but it never ran like that till after we installed it. It's not THAT BAD, just a tiny difference. But that's why im saying u could do it maybe like me, i got a 3kgt vr-4 pump that flows 180(240 rewired) for 45 shipped, and if i ever need to upgrade to the 255, then ill just resell the 3kgt one for around the same price and get the 255, so i really won't lose that much money. But to answer your question, a 255 will probably be enough so that you will never need to touch the fuel pump again. Good luck

I have seen two differnt flow maps for the Walbro 255HP and the Supra pump which the supra pump only flowed 15-20 LPH more than the Walbro at 70psi you know where it counts, it doesnt really matter at your base pressure because thats no boost no vac, but at 70psi you would be running your base of 43 and 27psi on top of that, thats where I would want to know what my pump flows, also the Supra pump draws 21amps!!! that is killer, the Walbro only draws 11.

my walbro was not that loud, and the VR-4 pump seems good for the price.
