Hi I have a -6AN AN fitting and -6line coming from the fuel pump. This is a 91 tsi fwd. The AN fitting is leaking right between where you would put a wrench to tighten the barb onto the hose and the female side that screws onto the flared line from the fuel pump side (see picture attached). Since it is leaking from there does this mean this is a bad fitting? Or am I doing something wrong here? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You didn't put teflon on the the threads of the fitting did you? Otherwise I would tighten it down some more on the male so it'll seal correctly.

I got ahold of someone from goodridge and they want me to send them the entire fitting back and they are sending me a new one out. They think something is not right there. But thanks for your response I appreciate it!

Didn't mean to rise this thread from the grave nor to highjack it but I have some questions about AN fittings. I'm in the process fo upgrading my fuel system. Pump, fuel lines, filter, fpr, etc. My questions are: When installing 6AN-fittings. Lets say fuel pump to fuel line. Why isn't it apropriate to use teflon tape on the threads? Do yo just connect the AN fittings without any thing? Won't gasoline leak out from the threads?
I like to know the "whys" and 'do's and dont's. This way I can work with more confidence and less chance of messing things up.

Thanks guys.

jorge.

AN fittings are flared to seal without the use of any teflon. When you put the teflon on the threads, it keeps the flare for seating correctly and you end up getting a leak.

The reason you dont want to use teflon is the chance of pieces dislodging and entering your fuel system and clogging the injectors. Some people recommend pastes. But even then, your fittings should be sealing without additional help.

Yea, like mentioned, if it was tight and is leaking there it's defective, but throw the wrench on it and see if it will go a little more. I've only ever had one AN fitting come to me bad from the maker so unless it was damaged during assembly or shipping the fitting should be okay.

I mainly wanted to chime in to remind everyone to use a drop of oil on the threads of their AN fittings, otherwise you run the risk of them seizing up and when you try and un-do them you will ruin the threads.

Thanks guys! Thats great info!!
Glen, can it be any kind of oil like motor oil? what about grease or lube?

I'm not positive about the 1g fuel pump assembly, but the 2g high pressure line has a non-AN fitting, and you have to get the blue Saginaw fitting from Earl's (only place I could find one). You need teflon tape between the stock pump assembly fitting and the Saginaw. Then the other end of the Saginaw fitting is AN-6 and wouldn't need tape.
