Richmond Hill,
I was attempting to perform this BOV Mod, but I wasn't really sure exactly what the BOV was. Now I am assuming that it is the little tube that is attached to the intake piping is the BOV. Now if I am correct about this then how can it be "crushed" - it's a kind of rubbery hose and when I "crush" it, it just pops back into its origial shape. Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance :)

I havent done this mod yet, as the stock 1g bov will hold 18 psi at least, and I only run 16. I probably will run 16 psi for a couple of years at least, as I want to keep stock turbo, stock computer, stock injectors.

but if you really know that your bov is the item leaking and holding you back, have at it.

But don't try to crush the hose, but the metal part of the valve. It is attached to the upper intercooler pipe at the metal part near the aircan. Apparently you put the unit in a vice and GENTLY crush it bit by bit until it will hold your desired psi, up to 22 or so?? I am just guessing on that figure, someone will tell ya.

but again, unless you have performance intercooler pipes, intercooler, intake pipe, air filter, exaust manifold, O2 housing, full exaust, rewired aftermarket pump, larger injectors, aftermarket computer etc, you probably don't need (or can use) higher boost. If you boost higher than the factory fuel system can handle you will destroy your motor.

Of course someone will have done this and prove me wrong, but this is just my advice. More is not always better...

anyone else?? I am still learning as well, and welcome the knowledge

John

Ahh the BOV has a small hose attactched to the Boost control solenoid, right?

I see it. Thank you for the posts from people that actually wanted to help. :)

well, we all must walk before we can get timeslips with 12 sec ET's. So he is just starting out, lets help him.

Yes the Blow off Valve is a metal canister with a spring loaded valve inside. the large rubber tube connecting it to the air intake is what you were trying to crush.

but like I said before, at this stage of the game, just leave it alone. First gen Talon/Eclipse BOV are some of the best out there. Alot of other Turbo guys use them on thier rides, be they Volvo, Toyota, or a freaked out Honda. They are good.

I agree that you normaly don't have to modify them if your car is stock, but I was getting boost leak at around 25vac. It would cause my car to jerk sundently when driving at around 60MPH in 5th, this is right where 25vac is for me. Anyhow it may seem crude but I simply took it off placed it on a cloth and set that on the ground, using a hammer I taped on the top area where the vacume line comes out. I taped it down to just to where the it had an inward slant to the surrounding area(where the three supporting mods are). Don't know if that made any sense but thats the best I could discribe it. Here is what one looks like if you still arn't sure.http://www.extrememotorsports.com/g2cat/bov1-l.jpg Anyhow after doing this my car ran a lot better and never did that buckle thing again.

Don't crush your BOV. I'm almost possitive you will crush it too much and ruin it. Just a hunch. I did a different mod to mine, it's reversable, I can switch back to "fast opening" very easily. This mod is on www.vfaq.com. Why do most of you people not know what this is? And why am I the only one who knows that crushing the BOV is ****ing stupid? I feel like I'm insane...

God, I feel like stupidity is contagious after reading this ridiculous thread. Do you people even bother researching known resources on the web for this information, or do you just expect everyone to answer your assinine questions because you're too lazy to do the footwork yourselves??? Today's generation wants everything without working for it and it really chaps my a-s-s at times like this. We all start from square one, but this is just pure laziness. Read, learn, and become knowledgeable.

Whoa this guy's right!

This is a FORUM.

This is the TURBO TUNING SECTION of the forum.

This is where you ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT TUNING CARS TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERINCE, AND LEARN ABOUT CARS IN THE PROCESS.

If you found this thread so incredibly unbearable, you could have hit that little back button on your browser and everything would be alright.

This generation is so quick to harrass everyone that they don't ask anymore questions in fear of being harrassed.

Well think about it... obviously I had to be doing some reaseach on it to know that the mod existed, don't you think? If you were doing a mod on are part and you didn't know what it looked like, would you just go around crushing random things in your car? I'm sure you wouldn't. Again, thank you for the helpful posts. For all the rest of you, I know you must be car "Gods", but please, keep it to yourself... I really could care less.

No, Joe is right. If you don't even know what a ****ing BOV is you have no business asking about modifying it let alone actually trying to do it. The younger generation want respect and knowledge handed to them on a platter without earning either. Fine, just don't get all upset with me when I ignore and/or make fun of you.

Do you think Dave Buschur had anyone to ask dumb questions to? No, he figured all his **** out himself.

You are correct, this is the place to ask questions. But it's not the place to ask questions that you could have answered yourself by expending some energy. C'mon guys. A BOV. It's in the ****ing manual. If you don't know what it is you need to do A LOT of PERSONAL research before cluttering up a bulletin board with retarded questions.

First of all, I don't want your respect, nor am I looking to gain any knowledge from you, or anyone else like you.

Do you think Dave Buschur had anyone to ask dumb questions to? No, he figured all his **** out himself.

What you, and Dave Buschur had to learn on your own really doesn't concern me. I teach myself a whole lot of different things, but before making costly mistakes, yes, I do ask questions.

It seems like you're just bitter because nobody was there to help you and you feel the "younger generation" has it too easy. Well that's what we are here for, to help each other, in most cases anyway. Maybe there should be an "Experts Only" forum created just for BatmanGSX and GoFastTSi. That way you can get mad at each other for asking "stupid" questions that you both should know.

Or maybe there should be a newbie forum for dumb ****in' questions like, "What is a BOV? Is it a rubber tube?" Oh wait, there already is a forum like that. Go there.

Wrong sparky. If this is the forum for technically advanced questions, then you are all in deep ****. If you don't know what/where a BOV is and you're even thinking of trying to crush it, then you're in WAYYYY over your head. Every single one of you should have the shop manual before even making your first mod as it points out where everything is and more importantly the torque values, etc. But, by all mean, go ahead stumbling in the dark and pissing money into the wind. This is by far the best example of the blind leading the deaf I've yet seen on the internet. I'm not going to praise you and be sensible to your feminine side when it's obvious you don't deserve it. Until then, research and keep posts like this in the section where they belong. The NEWBIE forum...

BatmanGSX does have a point though. Your first stop for "how-to" information should be www.vfaq.com. Had our original poster gone to vfaq.com he would have seen that under intake, there is a "1g bov modding" link. If you go to that link, it shows wonderful pictures of a bov. He would then known what the bov looked like, and would not have made himself look like the worlds biggest newbie.

As wonderful as the internet is for providing us with information at our fingertips, you have to come to expect a certain amount of aggression from people when asking questions. No matter where you go, it is very likely that someone will give you **** for asking a question. This is not just on dsmtuners, or just on dsm sites. It's everywhere. You need to have thick skin on the internet. Don't let the ethugs get you down.

i think its a bit unfair to slam new people for their lack of knowledge. some people may not even know about vfaq.com. their is no need to talk down on new people, for being *green*. it so much better to just point a new person in the right direction, rather than trying to make them feel stupid for asking questions. Chris has gone the great lenths to create a tuning section and newbie forum for questions like this. people should not be made to feel stupid for asking questions.

Or maybe there should be a newbie forum for dumb ****in' questions like, "What is a BOV? Is it a rubber tube?" Oh wait, there already is a forum like that. Go there.

I don't agree the average guy who buys a turbo dsm would have no idea what a bov is. Does that make him dumb *NO* it makes him uninformed.
This stuff is not common knowledge its learned.

For all the new people I suggest going to sites like www.buschurracing.com and www.extrememotorsports.com and reading their staged upgrade paths. they do a very good job or explaining how to go fast, and what each part is and it purpose. dont give in to the ignorant people, just ignore them:D

This brings up an interesting question how did you look it up yet not come across information on what/where a bov and what to do with it when you found it.

Right now I want everyone to look up at the top of the thread there is a hyperlink for links. This will help EVERYONE answer the simple questions You can find this CORRECT and ACCURATE information using the LINKS page.

I swear I want to kick the poster in the nuts when he asks a question about venting to the atmosphere or some other bov nonsense when its has been answered CORRECTLY before.

I'm still a newbie in most respects, but I feel that I've done my share of researching and reading and listening. Whenever I have a question about my car (which is often) I first look through all the references I can find and only then post it to one of these boards. I agree with the others who have pointed to VFAQ, Buschur, Extreme, dsm.org, and other sites as good reference material. For 2Gs, one of my favorites is http://www.jumptronix.com/2g_go_faster/index.htm.

Road Race Engineering also has staged upgrade paths for DSMs-- check that one out too. And the Talon Digest archives are a treasure trove of information-- there's tons more stuff there than one could ever learn.

You are a rarity. If more newbies were like you we wouldn't have asinine threads such as this.
