can anyone tel me what knocks is i want to see if i get the same answer as some people i kno cuz i wanna be sure?? and also what is a pocketlogger?

"Knock" otherwise known as detonation, is when the gasoline is ignited not by the sparkplug, but by either a too-hot surface in the combustion chamber, or by too high pressures and temperatures. This causes a very high-pressure shockwave that can cause damage.

Our engines are designed to be able to withstand quite a bit of knock, but not too much. Our cars have a "knock sensor" which detects when knock is happening due to the characteristic sound knock makes (you may not hear it, but the sensor can) The ECU, when sensing knock will either pull timing, or reduce the boost to alleviate the knock. Less timing and less boost = less pressures in the engine = less knock.

So, knock is bad both because it is damaging, and our ECUs will make the engine slower.

What can cause knock is too high of a boost setting, too low octane gas, pushing the throttle too far at low RPMs, and a number of other different things.

A Pocketlogger is the combination of a Palm-Pilot computer, and software from the company "Digital Tuning, inc" You plug the palm-pilot with a special cable into the ECU of our cars. This allows you to monitor all of the engine parameters such as RPM, temperatures, and knock. It is a useful tuning tool in that it allows you to monitor things that most people don't get to see, and you can tell exactly how hard you can push your engine before you start getting knock.

Hope that helps
