Was wondering if I could get some info on other people's Stroker setup. I have found not only a 4G64 crank, but a 2.4 ltr block also. I was wondering if the larger block would be of any benifit to a stroker setup. I'm not sure if my block is salvagable right now. I just cought a case of the crank walk. I want to put a stroker in this car and do it right. Please help me get all the things I need together. Thanx for the help in advance.

The 4g64 swap is VERY popular. In fact I have a built 64 ready to go in shortly. Is the block you have 6 bolt or 7bolt? What car did it come out of etc. I think it would be ideal from an engine numbers standpoint to use the 64 block as opposed to putting the 64 crank in a 63 block. I know there is a huge thread about the 64 over at Talk if you need to do some more research.

I've done the research, and nothing is more confusing than reading good a nd bad things about both setups. I've got a guy ready to sell me a 4g64 block and crank and I've heard they make great power, but still have the chance of crankwalk in the 7bolt model. I have a 7 blot I'm looking at, but have been talked out of and convinced the 6 bolt is the way to go. The deal is, if I get a 2.0 block and do the 2.3 stroker conversion, I'm gonna need to get pistons to match. I need some one the basically sell me a kit and I can have it put together locally. I'm just so confused on which setup to go with. I've also found a 4g64 crank for $300. I thought that was a good deal, so I'm gonna get it. I've also been reading up and pistons and rods and different combos and such, and then my brain started hurting. I think I want to get the 2.3 stroker kit, and leave the 4g64 block alone, unless I could be convinced other wise. Maybe a 4g64 6 bolt, but how rare is that block? Anyway, keep the feedback coming. Thanx.

FP and BJ’s sell the proper kit to get the 64 crank in your 63 block. $300 for the crank is a total rip off. I got a back up 64 block for $150 bucks out of a non running Hyundai. I bet you could get a crank from autozone cheaper. If you look at the rod/stroke ratio and all the other internal engine mobo jumbo the basic conclusion is that the 64 block is preferred. The 6 bolt block isn’t too rare but it can be tough to find.

The 64 block is preferred because it has a 9mm taller deck height, which means you can have better placement of the wristpin in the piston and have less oil consumption. And if you want a 6bolt 64 block look for a 91 Mitsubishi Mighty Max...they all had them. You want just a 64 crank, best place to get them is AutoZone, no lie. The have factory reconditioned ones for under $200, guaranteed good...you have no clue about that $300 crank you a buying. Also, as far as the short block goes with the 64 crank in a 63 block JE makes pistons with a relocated wristpin just for this purpose, off the shelf PN 202192 and PN 202193 ($107.50 a piece, you can get them at www.raceeng.com). The timing belt has to be modified also although I can't remember this info off the top of my head.

another problem I think I'm running into is with the 2.4 block, will all my pumps and salvagable stuff from my engind bolt on as well? What size pistons are needed for the 2.4 swap. If I get a 6 bolt 2.4, what modifications are needed to fit it in the 2g engine bay? Has any one done this yet. I'm curently looking at the Yahoo group 1gina2g for other info. Please guys. More info. Thanx.

The 64 and 63 blocks are EXACTLY the same except for a 9mm higher deck height. Also the 64 block needs holes drilled and tapped for oil squirters and a knock sensor, other than that they are the exact same casting...the 63 block just had more material taken off the deck top during machining.

There are no negatives to stroking out your motor. Only thing I would look out for is which crank you get. Do not buy a reman crank spend the money and get a new Mitsu 2.4L crank. The reman such as top line are very weak.

hey gstman good thing your looking into this cause i am as well i have read every thread, im sure, from the neg of stroking to the negatives of even going higher displacement to that 8 page thread about all 4g64 questions here and still have not come a conclusion yet, i have 115,000 miles on my 7 bolt and am looking to go 2.4/2.3 soon, but still unsure of which path i shall take...hit me back if you make a decision id like to know how you go about doing it.

cool no prob man, my buddies tellin me to stick with the 2.0 but well see how it goes
