I'm looking at welding a fitting on to the water pipe on the side that used to run to the heater core. Anyone know what size and what type of fitting is needed for that? I'd like to be able to run a AN fitting. I'm planning on cutting it back a little so that I'm not welding it on to the hose barb part.

Also, what type/size of fitting do people use when they run a AN fitting off the water neck and radiator?

If you can't find a steel AN fitting you can use JIC fittings from a local fitting supply shop, the threads are nearly identical to AN threads.

He's looking for a fitting for the smaller pipe that goes to the heater core, not the outlet for the radiator hose.
Actually, looking for both. I'm more interested in the smaller fitting though. I guess I should finally go out and buy some digital calipers. Are AN fittings measured on the inside diameter - How would I determine the size of fitting I'd need once I know the outside diameter of the pipe?

I know the water pipe outlet and thermostat housing are -16 an, I don't know about the heater core line though. I'll look around and see if I can find some AN fittings and a water pipe in my shop.

Sorry Chris I couldn't find my AN fittings. AN fittings are measured on the inside diameter. I would just take the water pipe down to the local fitting supply shop and visually match up the fittings you need to the water pipe.

My educated guess would be -8 for the heater core.

I'm using -16 for my rad hoses and -6 for my water line for my turbo. I wont be using a water pipe but rather welding directly to the water pump a -16 bung and a -6 bung for both. Nice and clean and eliminate a bunch of leaking points for the cooling system. My HVAC is removed so i've got no coolant lines running to the firewall and neither do i have a FIAV.
