This is the full story so bare with me here:

I arrive back to where I had my car parked from being away at a wrestling tourney. Anyhow, I get in my car it starts just fine. I let it idle for about 20 sec or so before I attempt to back it out of the parking spot. My Dad was following me on the way home too. SO IF ANYTHING DID HAPPEN HE COULD KINDA GET AN IDEA. (Well something did) I drive no more than about 2 miles before I start to get on it to make sure that the 15w 50 Mobil 1 Synthetic motor oil with 20 % Lucas oil treatment is good and warm up to operating temperature. I was in 5th gear at the time doing 50 on the Speedo; Dad was following me close so I figured what the hell lets drop her down a gear or two.
I shift down to 4th and then into 3rd where I get on the gas to about no faster than 70 by the time I let off. The boost builds and then all of a sudden, my car sounds like I am running over gravel or as if I hit something on the bottom side of the car... I let off the gas downshifted to 2nd and it grinded all the way through it. I pull off the road get out as I walk around to the back while my dad pulled up beside behind me. I looked on the ground and I noticed a LONG oil or trans fluid line (haven’t checked which one it is) streaking the ground (FROM WHERE I HIT THE GAS). Dad said that when I got on it he could here my exhaust pick up and then he saw sparks shooting out from underneath of the car along with smoke. We popped the hood and couldn’t see anything because it was so dark outside. I tried to crank it over and I pushed in the clutch and well it cranked over but it was so slow as if the battery was low but it did move. What do you all think that it is? The tranny, the rods, or the turbo may have exploded? I checked underneath the car and couldn’t see oil leaking on the ground. If you all would please help me with what you all think that the problem is.
And if you would post some links regarding engine blocks and tranny's just incase that this is what is broken. My mods are in my info. With the bottom end being able to hold 400hp and with my mods I am far from it, which makes me think or lean more towards a turbo exploding or a tranny. The car is still parked on the side of the road 1 mile from my house we are flat bedding it tomorrow I guess then I will get to see the REAL problem. Any and ALL help would be appreciated. As for now I have to pull out old tanner the 1990 Honda Accord EX.

I will try to answer any questons that you guys have to the best that i can so i can figure this thing out!!!

Thanks Guys

$hit that suxs bro check the fluids and if there all ok with one or the other has a good leak from what you said. but if you think its the turbo pull your intake and check the fins on the turbo shaft see if there all there and not dammaged, and check for shaft play. hopefully its just a slight oil leak from somewheres and it didnt do any dammage. but check the oil line feed going to the turbo, and oil plug hopefully you or who ever remembered to tighten it.

Good luck hope its not as bad as it sounds shoot me back the info

I figure I would retype this thing to make some more sense of it now that I have it hauled back to the house here Kentucky style, (Rope and a beat up truck to pull it) LOL. Anyhow I drained the motor oil. Uh Oh... I had some antifreeze in it???? I then pulled the downpipe off and it had coolant in it too. No motor oil in it though. Once that was done, I dropped the oil pan. DAMN, number one cylinder connecting rod was gone; the rod cap got bent into a C shape and the oil pick up was broken off. I was like ok maybe this isn’t to bad here. I got back up top and pulled the timing cover off. Crap... The timing belt was loose. Went back down and the Number one rod pushed the balance shaft straight thru the block causing the timing belt to slip off and run into the block and get stuck. The balance shaft is in a huge HUGE curve outside of the block. NO SIGN of a connecting rod still.... It broke in 10,000 small pieces I am guessing they flew into the road.
So intern my Motor went..... POOF!!! The block is no good the entire bottom end of it has a 12-inch crack from 1/8” wide to a full 1” or more were the shaft is sticking out. The crank seems to be ok (I pray). I haven’t had a chance to pull the head off yet to check the valves. I did pull the valve cover off and the lifters were all lying in the valley on the intake cam side, well about 6 of them and 2 on the exhaust cam side. And all these little tiny pins were lying inside of it too. I am looking at 3000 dollars of damage or even more. But hey I still love the DSM’S!!! I did notice before this thing went loose that when I would start it, it would make a small click noise like my lifters were ticking????? You people sometimes have that problem and suggest thicker oil. My problem was rod knock. The bearing on the #1 rod went from a U to a straight line, it completely flattened it. The turbo is still good and so is the transmission or so I hope. I am pulling the motor and trans tomorrow so I can see the real damage done. So far the block and rods are scrap metal and the oil pump as well, and the intake cam has some minor scratches on them that may be able to be grounded out, if not I am going to buy all new ones And if the head is bad I am going to get a new one also. So far here is a list of parts:

1. Buschur Racing Stage 1 short block
2. Buschur Racing Stage 1 head
3. Crower Stage 1 Cams
4. Oil Pump, Oil Pan…OEM
5. Gasket Kit

If you know where I could get a better deal or a link with moderate prices around 1500 dollars for a bottom end please post them. Thanks guys… :thumb:

Anyone know a link that shows how to pull the motor on a 2G and a Head off a 2G. The bolts on my head are like round and slotted all the way around it. Any answer's to how to pull it or a link?

how many miles did you have on the motor ? i have never pulled my head off wish i did so i could give you the info you need to do it.
Sorry to hear about the dammage sure hope you can build her better then she was before =)

Wow, a 98 let go like that? In your post it was hard to tell if it was the timing belt that caused it or just that the rod broke and stoped the balance shaft which made the belt pop off.

That sounds wierd considering that these motors can take major HP and yours just self destructed like that.

You will need a 12 point socket to take out your head bolts. Its going to be a bit hard to get a short block for $1500. You can pick up wiseco piston and rod combo from race engineering for $726 + shipping. Bearings are about $85. If your crank is ok you can have it turned for about $50. Block work will be about $200. Then you still have stuff like new oil pump and front case, timing belt, gaskets etc. I guess if you build it yourself you will be around $1500.

Everyone says to drop the engine out the bottom to remove it. I pulled my engine and tranni together out the top. You will have to remove your radiator, exhaust, turbo, altinator, ps pump, throttle body, and rear motor mount. i left the ac on the engine and disconnected the lines. I took apart some of the passenger side front suspension so I could pull the axle out of the tranni. When Shifted the engine over the hoist enough to remove the other axle. This saved alot of suspension work. You have to drop the engine down some to get it loose frome the mounts and it has to come out with the tranni tilted down. With a little patience this will work.
